What is the Unwritten Code of this Community?

Asked by Red_Turtle (236points) March 23rd, 2013

By unwritten code I am refering to etiquette, social ladder, cliques and or whatever else may fall into that nebulous category.

Just be yourself I say. And welcome…

Welcome to Fluther! I hope you enjoy it. :)
Maybe I’ve missed it, but I don’t think there are any snobs or cliques here. We all appreciate each other for their individual point of view, and hope they will contribute to discussions. Here are some tips I think will make your experience even more enjoyable:
Use good grammar.
Don’t tear others down.
Acknowledge when someone has a good point.
Make people think; don’t make them wonder about your sanity.
Acknowledge that the collective has been around for years, with many inside jokes that only those who were around for the original thread will understand. And not even all of them do. Does anyone even know how “Cak in the frizzer” started? I read through that thread a few years ago, and it made me wonder if the OP was under the influence of some very interesting hallucinogenic drug.
Don’t try to be something you’re not, just because none of us know you IRL.
Never assume. Anything.
If you’re going to get into philosophical debates, good for you! Just be willing to have people pick your argument to pieces and show you the holes in your logic. It will happen. If you go into it with the right mindset, you’ll appreciate it and you’ll come away with a more solid foundation of why you believe what you believe (or with a whole new set of questions).
Be willing to be corrected.
Have fun!

Unfortunately, one’s personal opinion of site etiquette becomes the unspoken rule, that which is not listed in the guided lines. Kinda like most social websites, really.

I say, fuck all that shit. Study the guidelines for a few minutes, respect them and this site can be a hell of a lot of fun. I would also like to note that we have a lot of freedom here, when the official rules are respected. I get away with it all.

Welcome, don’t be a dick, and have fun.

You must love The Princess Bride. Other than that, be yourself. The quirkier the better. And what @gailcalled said. She’s the Queen.

@Randomgirl: Make people think; don’t make them wonder about your sanity. Lurved that!

Just be mellow and learn to ignore the buttheads. Or if you like, bait them a little every now and then

Thank you for the welcome.

I wouldn’t normally advertise this but after the responses from @RandomGirl and @zenzen it would be misleading of me not to.

Head’s up sometimes I question my own sanity, am not always mellow yellow and slight tendency to unadulturatedly blunt, which some do find dickish @Symbeline. Quirky I do got though.

Overall this place sounds like it has undertones of the “Great American Experiment.” Which while flawed is noble in intent.

All hail Gail. I will get right on my profile. After I figure out what to write.

@Symbeline I’m admiring the Mortishia voodoo doll you have in your box there.

@rojo Do I need to take a breathalyzer upon exiting?

@ucme Oh yes this the interwebs we do celebrate the wee folk.

No, sometimes it is required before you get in but you are expected to be intoxicated when you leave.
