Should I go to my eye doctor appointment on the 13th?

Asked by kkgirl (9points) September 2nd, 2013

4 years ago I went to the eye doctor and I had 20/ 20. I have a hard time seeing the board at school. When I can’t see most signs until I’m right there on top of them. I get headaches all the time. I made the appt but then I’m starting to think they are just going to tell me I have 20 20 again so going will be a waste of time and money.

ps: I am a female that is 19 years old. Also when I put on my dad’s glasses I can see out of them once my eyes focus. I can see well out of them but then when I take them off I can’t see my eyes have to focus again.

A lot can change in four years. I’d definitely go!

Of course you should! Eyes are too valuable to screw around with.

My vision changed a lot during my teen years. You are having difficulty seeing, so why are you thinking they’ll tell you your vision is fine? Even if your eyes are working well mechanically, there could be other causes for the perceptual problems you are noticing – some of which could be potentially serious. Be as detailed as you can in describing the symptoms you are having and the situations in which they occur. Your father’s prescription is probably very different from what you need, so that is why you are very aware of your eyes adjusting when you try them and take them off again.

Considering that you mention headaches, I am hoping that you are seeing an Ophthalmologist, who is a medical doctor (M.D. or D.O.) of the eyes and auditory nervous system. An Optometrist has a clinical doctorate (O.D.) in evaluation of vision and eye function, and should refer you to an Opthalmologist if there is any reason to suspect a medical problem. An Optician is licensed to precribe and fit corrective lenses, and has far less education and training, and can not evaluate how your headaches might fit into the symptoms you’re experiencing.

Yes. Hell yes.

And welcome to Fluther.

Welcome to fluther. Do you enjoy the way a hot guy looks on the beach, a new born fawn looks taking their first few steps, a puppy running on linoleum, or watching the laughter of a child? Never fuck with your eyes. If something feels wrong get it checked out. You probably read a lot, that also messes with your eyes a bit.

Yes, go! However, your vision issue may be related to stress, and not your eyes.

definitely go.

My eyesight changed dramatically over a summer vacation. Sixth grade hit and all of a sudden I couldn’t see anymore!

Believe me, seeing is a whole lot better than not seeing.

Go girl! Go!
Do not mess about with your eyes as they are far too precious.
You want to read all that the Jellies put here on Fluther?
Hope so, so please GO!

Yes my vision changed from being far sighted to perfect to near sighted most of which happened during my teen years.

It is customary to get eyes checked once a year.
