Do you ever have trouble figuring out what the question was?

Asked by rojo (24179points) September 4th, 2013

Sometimes when I access the next question from the bottom of the page, I pay no attention to what it is, I just know it will take me to the next one. Many times when I get there I cannot tell what the actual question was from the answers and I find myself having to go back to the top of the page to find out what the question really was.
Anybody else have this difficulty? Is it normal?

I’m having great difficulty figuring out what this question is.

Are you saying that you click the links at the bottom for next article, and then don’t want to read the question or something, but would rather intuit the question by the answers listed at the bottom of the page? What exactly are you asking?

^ It has to be a great question whatever it is, it got a GA.

Yes, and no.
Yes, I use the Next Activity link to go to the next question.
And No, I am not expecting to intuit the question. Since it links to questions I am following I am (or should be) familiar with the question and previous responses.
What I am getting at is that sometimes I am unable to comprehend what the question was or, if I do recall what the next activity was, it does not seem to be relevant to the answers.

Is that clearer?

“Next Activity”? I have an “older” at the bottom of my page, but that’s not how I process questions – I go to the home page.

@syz I too have an “older” and it usually lists two older links but in the middle is one that says “Next Activity” and it will take me to the top of the list on my “Activity for You” page.

although, as I write this there is only a single older question entitled “How do torturers deal with their craft?”

@rojo . . . Have you ever asked a simple question and then wondered how it all went to shit so fast?

sometimes, now, yes

Many times the details have nothing to do with the question, and I don’t like it when that happens.

I don’t usually guess what the question is by the answers. Reading the question itself is much more efficient.

I understand what you are saying @rojo. I’ve done the same and wondered what question I was on because I didn’t recognize or remember the previous answers, and I didn’t pay attention to the title of the question when I clicked on it. If the answers are just a bunch of food talk (which means the question will probably not get any more on topic answers) I just go on to the next question and don’t even bother to scroll up and see what the question was.

I know exactly what you mean, @rojo. If I click on the red link at the center bottom of this page to go to the next question I’m following that has new activity, and I haven’t been in the question thread for a while, and didn’t pay attention before I clicked, I can be lost.

Is it normal for a thread to wander? Nope. Is it a big deal to hit home, or scroll up? Nope.

@rojo I’m right there with you!

I get addled without the stimulation of a question. If the answers go on and on, I do too. Just sayin’
