Do you have any habits that seem perfectly normal and practical to you, but cause your friends to tease you?

Asked by ibstubro (18804points) August 24th, 2014

Most parking lots today are rows of 2 cars facing each other (Walmart style). I’m pleased when I find a ‘pull through’, or a spot where both places are empty and I can pull in and pull out without backing up.

My friends think this is hilarious, saying grandiosely, “Ooooh! A pull-through.

I laugh along.
Does it get under your skin? Make you change your behavior?

Hey, I do that any chance I get. Backing up cuts your observation field on a huge basis. Pulling out of a space is always the best way to go.

To back up in a lot that has kids and pedestrians all over it is something that it’s good to avoid, when possible. I do the “pull through” too.

I do this too. I park near the end of the parking lot to escape the congestion near the front near the doors to the store, and i also park close to the shopping cart corral for a quick drop off.

I was teased in middle school for talking to myself, but not by my friends. The mean girls teased me.

I get in trouble whenever I talk about touchy subjects like (time travel or witchcraft) . Seeing I don’t have any friends other than Fluther or Answerbag. I just talk to my mom in the real world, other than nurses and doctors in the real world I have no friends.

@talljasperman Maybe 37 year old adults are not supposed to have friends?

I try to repair or build things for myself before buying a new one or buying something. And i am a master of ‘re purposing’ things.

After a test, everyone checks the answers using textbooks. I just avoid looking at textbooks and go home straight after the test. They tease me for being a coward, but I actually don’t want to be more stressful.

@talljasperman Think Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

talljasperman's avatar

@Mimishu1995 I don’t understand? I haven’t read about either philosopher.

@talljasperman Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels were friends for a significantly long time. Their friendship lasted until Marx’s death. My point is just that it’s normal for you to make friends at the age of 37.

Just my carrying books with me all the time, I hide my quirks well lol

I always scan for a pull through parking space too. haha

I have plenty, but most of them are professional foibles. I have a very particular way of taking x-rays, because that is the approach that works for me. Some of my techniques can draw comments and some teasing, but there’s no arguing with the results!

As for the parking, I find it easier to reverse into a space. I’m always facing the right way to drive straight out, and considering my car has the turning circle of a battleship, it makes it easier to get into the space also.

I can’t resist a pull-through! Though sometimes I should. (Putting groceries into your trunk when it’s jammed up next to someone’s car isn’t the most convenient thing.)

I dedicate my right pocket of my pants to small recyclables. Though only my husband knows about it, so my teasing is limited.

Does singing to my geese and talking to horses like they are humans count as a weird habit?
God only knows what people would think if they heard me bobbling around the ranch here talking to the animals. Calling out “breakfast!” at 5 p.m. to the cats, and swearing at the ducks when they won’t go to the barn. lol
This mornings ramble when feeding the horses….” Good morning girls! ( sliding open stall doors), ” Back, back, BACK it UP, you want breakfast, let me get in here with the hay ladies!”

“Cookies? COOKIES, if you’re good! ( hiding apple biscuits behind my back )
Oh, did I mention this is all with me in my skimpy nighty, no underwear and pink and brown cowboy boots tromping 200 yards down the hill here at 8 a.m.
Yeah, it’s a hot farm chick morning at the barn over here. Horse breath smells better than mine. haha

The darned, putting groceries in the trunk, thing, @fluthernutter! Never fails.

@Coloma: I thought you don’t live on the farm any more?

Coloma's avatar

@jca I’m back, living on a friends ranch as an all around helper for awhile.

I like to keep my egg cartons balanced, so I use them up in a symmetrical pattern.
Yeah, I’m kind of OCD.

On a somewhat related side note, I don’t like to pick up things that look heavy and are actually really light. It throws off how much force you’ve gauged to pick it up.
