Has anyone tried (or is planning to try) some new springtime recipes this year?

Asked by Kardamom (33292points) April 3rd, 2015

My mom always gets these recipe supplements in the mail, because we subscribe to several magazines like Cooking Light, Sunset and the like. About a month ago we got one called Kraft Food and Family which featured This Recipe for a “mac and cheese” made with cauliflower instead of noodles.

I couldn’t wait to try it. Of course, I had to doctor it up, as I tend to do. I’ve made it twice so far. The second time I made it, I added broccoli, sautéed shiitake mushrooms, and Field Roast fake sausage, then I sprinkled chipotle pepper powder over the panko bread crumbs on top. OMG! This stuff was da bomb! I plan to make it again and freeze some. I’ll probably change up the add ins too, because this recipe is very versatile. I’m thinking sun dried tomatoes might be good, or maybe chopped green chilies.

Have you made anything, or have any recipes saved, on Pinterest or elsewhere, that you are planning to try in the near future?

“Dino ribs” made with beef ribs (untrimmed short ribs) cooked for about 5 hours over lump charcoal at 225* F.

Some how pasting my same old go to recipes on fluther doesn’t work as well as when I actually bring them in real life!

Nope, no spring recipes. I worked all winter on my pumpkin pie recipe trying to find out how and why one pie my mother made tasted so much better than any other pumpkin pie I had tasted. Think I figured it out, too. (Burp)

I have a friend who keeps pushing me to try vegan recipes. I might break down and make one one of these days.

A couple of days I bought a bag of tamarind pods because I like Jarritos tamarind soda. And a bag of cloves, too.

I have no idea what to do with them. I plan to try something.

@jaytkay Here’s a site that tells you everything you need to know about Tamarind, maybe this will jump start your creativity.

@rojo Are you concerned that you won’t like any vegan recipes, or that they might be too weird or daunting? I hope you’ll give it a go. There’s a few vegan restaurants near my house that are just divine. Here are some Vegan Recipes that have my mouth watering, maybe you could start with one of these and bring it to our Fluther Springtime Potluck.

@rojo For vegan/vegetarian recipes I would take a look at 101 Cookbooks. I don’t think I’ve seen a post there that doesn’t look delicious. Poke around in the links on the side ‘By Ingredient – Travel – Spring etc…’

@Kardamom Thanks for the tamarind link!

@Kardamom not fear, laziness. I have tried some of the meals he has prepared and they are good and I have never been big on meat anyway (I do love my cod and salmon however). It is mainly hearing him talk about all the new and/or different ingredients and the prep time. He enjoys the cooking experience, I have more of a do what needs to be done and do it quick so I can eat type of personality.

@rojo Ha ha ha, I concur. Sometimes I just go to Whole Foods and pick out some items from their cold deli. The food is delicious, looks marvelous and if you put it in your own dish, it looks like you made it yourself : P
