Is the DOJ taking veterans guns away?

Asked by Judi (40025points) August 5th, 2015 from iPhone

A right wing friend is posting things saying that Obama is evil
Because the DOJ is reporting veterans who have care givers or direct deposit (can’t handle money?) to the ATF to be denied guns. The only articles I can find about it are on right wing sites. Anyone know the facts?

This is a story that keeps getting recirculated but is false. Ask your friend for verifiable proof.

I don’t respond to or get worked up over postings that friends make that are not from legitimate news sources. Don’t even bother to respond. They’re going to believe what they want to believe. I stopped long ago arguing with opinionated people on places like FB. I have friends that always post about left wingers and crap like that. Let them believe their propaganda.

I think there is some truth to the rumor, but not in the way it’s presented, of course.
I read that if a person’s mental capacities are so diminished that they are unable to take care of themselves or manage their finances, then they are denied a gun permit. This applies to everyone, not just veterans, and, of course, mostly to old people.

Makes sense to me.

I’ll see if I can find more.

Stupid shit like that is why I keep this handy to post.

Actually, per the article below, the VA has had checks in place for veterans for a while now, and Obama wants to to extend that to SS.

Now here is where things are going to get interesting, as the revelations begin to surface that the gun worshiping denominations are heavily weighted with those of shaky psychological footing. Occasionally the paranoid have justification for their fears. Charles Manson was smart enough to understand that “people will say I’m crazy!”
