Does Google provide any way for casual users to block (news) sources?

Asked by ibstubro (18804points) September 1st, 2015

Google News search seems to be one of the most highly rated general news sources. I could improve on that considerably if I could eliminate crap like “NY Daily News”, Fox and Huff.

I don’t want my news slanted. I’d appreciate at least a nod to impartial.

“Just the facts, ma’am.”

You can click on the wheel logo on the right and do “Advanced Search” and you can put in terms you don’t want (Fox, Huff, etc.) and then click “search.”

I’ve even seen ESPN print gossip as fact. They all print whatever is likely to sell a story, the truth be damned. None of them are immune to the lure of money.

Please stop for just a moment, if you would, before you block various news sources.
It is always better to be aware of the hoo-ha that some will ‘bring to the table’ concerning current events…..
You don’t have to read word for word, however, just scan the slant.
Does reading the opposite opinion make people wonderful?
No, it makes one whittle information down to the facts that a person uses to make informed decisions….and votes.
(also marvelous fodder for jokes!)

Yeah, @msh, Fox and Huff are actually pretty easily avoided. I’ll read their headlines, consider the source and choose another.

NYDN was a better example. Trash talking papers that I’m not personally very familiar with and might open thinking it is a “news” source, rather than entertainment.
