Who wants to help me create a logo?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46814points) May 26th, 2016

It’s for a real estate office. I know there are some basic guide lines to logo making but I don’t know what they are.

Here take your choice:

One

Two

Three and most important Don’t do it yourself or have amateur with little graphics design for cheap do it.

I think you should ask how much the Real Estate office is willing to budget. Because the wrong logo could cause, worst case, the office to be sued. Think WWF World Wildlife Federation and the Wrestling Federation.

You are a brat @DoNotKnowMuch!

At @Tropical_Willie from your first link “Like any line of work that involves a set of specific skills, logo design requires plenty of practice and experience for it to be successful; knowledge is definitely power for any graphic designer.” which I don’t have which is why I’m bugging you guys! I have the basic design. I need some advice.

From your second link @Tropical_Willie “If you think logo design is an easy process, trust me, that’s a misconception.” Which is why I’m bugging you guys.

Wouldn’t your real estate company already have one?

Dutchess_III's avatar

No, he doesn’t. And it’s not really a “company.” I’m sure he’s an LLC, but it’s just him. And his crazy wife who keeps the books.

I asked if he had a logo, he said he didn’t, had never thought of getting one, told me to make one. So here I am. Bugging you guys.

Hello? As I said I already have an outline.

Can you clue us on the basic design? Are you looking for gravity, humor, local character? Would you like a battle flag or standard?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Hang on. It’s in Word. I’ll make it a JPEG and upload it to photobucket.

Here is what I have….

I always start by checking the competition.

Then I make sure it works well on web top bar, web side banner ads, print envelopes, and letterhead.

Good luck and have fun!

So what do you think of what I have so far, @RealEyesRealizeRealLies?

I would go to freelancer.com and hire someone who is anxious to do it. You can get a decent custom logo for less than $50.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Thanks. But…I think I can come up with my own, really. I think. What is your take on this, @Judi?

Honestly? I think it looks kind of old. That might be what you’re going for though if you want to convey established and trustworthy. It doesn’t say modern and cutting edge.
I would expect to encounter a small company with a mom and pop operating it that had been doing the same thing forever. The colors look 80’s or 90’s to me. I would expect it to appeal to an older crowd, but might make a younger generation wonder if they are up to date on current marketing trends.
I guess it really depends on the market they’re trying to attract and what they want to say.

“What is your take on this”

The kerning between the large and small letters should be tightened. Too many type embellishments… italicize, serif, all caps reveals a tyro designer trying too hard. Add to that the additional embellishments of rounded corners, pin stripe… too many effects clashing.

The lines around “Herrman are too thick, and the justification is way off from both ends.

Consider putting Herrman Realty on one line smaller type that reads well for envelope and web banner. Current design is far too tall for that.

Consider using a sans serif font. Try Helvetica Neue, or spice it up a little with Optima. Both very classic.

The color scheme will be popular in the fall. Especially around Halloween. Perhaps consider a less dramatic theme that will read well on white paper.

Thanks. I’ll work in it guys.
