How in the hell could someone end up with 27 contact lenses in their eye?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46822points) July 18th, 2017

I saw that running around on Facebook and immediately dismissed it as a joke…but it’s freaking true!

How could that even be possible? 27 lenses in one eye?

Those things are very thin.
Probably thought that they would dissolve after a while.

I thought the same thing.

Maybe they’ve changed since I had them.

We have come a long way since the days of transparent mammoth hide

It was cow hide, ding dong.

One lens at a time, grasshopper. One lens at a time.

I can’t fathom how she didn’t end up with a massive infection.

So the eye is “out of focus” – - – >must not have put in my lens.

I sure didn’t believe it! And they found 10 more with a microscope?

Yuppers, that’s what it said. A wonder she didn’t go blind in that eye, with all that buildup. Ugggg…

She is 67 so I think there might be something like dementia going on. The contacts might be the least of her problems. Or she is a drunk.

I wonder if they still had to do cataract surgery on her!

From the article on ARS.

“The woman, who was equally shocked by the discovery, said she was a lot more comfortable after the lenses were removed, Morjaria reported.”

For me the question is how did they come to the conclusion that she needed surgery without noticing the lenses. Unless they were all stuck in between the diagnosis and the surgery.

I would think so!

I wear contacts and having one in the wrong way is like having sand in your eye. I can’t imagine having 27 and I can’t imagine how they actually stayed in.

Dutchess_III's avatar

The article said they were glued together with mucus. How could she even see? I still find this incredibly hard to believe. I hope she’s not allowed to wear contacts any more.

No kidding, That’s just nasty.
