Should Ben have been flagged on his own question for cumin on the coffee table?

are you trying to make some weird spice NSFW play on words here?

Dutchess_III's avatar

He started it! Ask Ben.

Ben, you naughty devil, you.

I know this isn’t a 100% serious question, but here’s a serious answer anyway:

(A) It’s a test question.
(B) The question pre-dates the General/Social division and the current rules regarding off-topic answers.
(C) If that answer is supposed to be NSFW, then what we should really be flagging it for is violating the writing standards.
(D) The best recipe for cumin on the table is… pancakes.

Okay, so it wasn’t an entirely serious answer.

@SavoirFaire LOL! That’s why you’re a mod and I ain’t! BUT, before the wis.dm rush, all questions were treated as though they were in General, even though General hadn’t been invented yet. You were expected to:
1) Stay on topic
2) Give a thoughtful, serious answer
3) And above all…NO LAUGHING!!

God I like to have died under those rules! But then they came up with the categories and nobody died, especially me.

At any rate, I thought Ben’s answers were interesting in light of that. Cumin on the coffee table indeed. Well I never!

That’s why I was also amazed that the Frizzer question was allowed to live. Bendrew must have been on vacation or something.

@Dutchess_III You’re actually wrong on almost all counts. Before the division, questions roamed wild and free and there was not much moderation. Eventually, Ben and Andrew decided it was getting to be too much of a social site and not Q&A enough and then they got stricter. There was a lot more humor in the old days.

And cumin is a spice that one could put on the coffee table. I think you are reading far too much mischief into his comment than was intended although I can’t know for sure. Ben’s humor would be much more subtle than that, I believe.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Well, we must have come in after they became stricter. You didn’t come out of Wis.dm. Talk about wild! This place was like a retirement home in comparison.

Just read through the question to answer yourself. I know what cumin is. Ben knows what cumin is. And he was smart enough to know the subtle suggestion he was making. He said it a couple of different times, in different ways. Go look for yourself.

NSFW is only needed for the question title, not the answers.

Quit pickin’ on Ben! :)

Dutchess_III's avatar

It’s fun to pick on people who aren’t here to defend themselves! Ben’s mind was in the gutter on that question!

janbb's avatar

^^ Or your mind is on this.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Whoa. This was just a silly question prompted by Ben’s play on words. I can’t believe some of you are taking it so seriously! It was also the first question ever asked on Fluther.

Lighten up, guys.

How do you know Ben is not here?
Maybe he looks in without posting… OR, maybe he has side accounts for lurking.

MrGrimm888's avatar

It’s got to go somewhere… Coffee table, sock, vaginas, butts, intern’s dresses…

Patty_Melt's avatar

Yeah, I figured, but I’m not.
Sometimes I see jellies ganging up on a newbie, like the fellow watching the jogging mom when everyone was picking their kids up from school, and I wonder if any of those newbies are really one of the founders, checking out how helpful is this site, really.
I think sometimes we fail to present ourselves well.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I of don’t reallly understand your point @Patty_Melt. Ben IS one of the 2 founders, and that was the first question asked here, and “cumin on the coffee table” were his comments. He does check in from time to time to fix something. Or maybe he just logs in sometimes and quietly looks around. I seriously doubt he comes in as a “newbie.”

He is simply keeping Fluther alive as “an act of love” for the site he and Andrew created.

Rarebear's avatar

I don’t get it.

SergeantQueen's avatar

@Rarebear uhhh, cuming on the coffee table?

Rarebear's avatar

(I was kidding)

SergeantQueen's avatar

(I wish I didn’t comment that. now I’m going to hell)

MrGrimm888's avatar

^Straight to the depths of Hell!!!!

Dutchess_III's avatar

OFF WITH HER HEAD!!

Patty_Melt's avatar

I know who the founders are. My point above included Ben and Andrew both, though this thread is about Ben alone. So?

My suggestion came from thinking how judgemental this site has gotten, how exclusionary, since that first post.
I wonder if the site really is an act of love for either of them these days, or an exercise in pity.

janbb's avatar

Well, Andrew has been out of it for a long time and Ben still pays the server fees and does necessary maintenance so it is certainly an act of generosity.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Patty_Melt And your preaching on what could have been a fun thread, which Ben started it, is an example how this place got so judgemental.

Patty_Melt's avatar

You are making up your own facts again. I said nothing at all like that.
The only one here hinting anything was wrong with Ben’s post, is you.

canidmajor's avatar

oh good grief

jonsblond's avatar

@Dutchess_III Preach, sister. :)

Dutchess_III's avatar

It’s the non stop bitching by a few members that’s bringing it down.

jonsblond's avatar

I agree with you, Dutch.
