Pet owners: What is something they do that you particularly love & conversely, anything that drives you nuts?

Asked by ucme (50047points) November 1st, 2019

We all adore our pets, they each have individual personalities & are very much part of the family. They can amaze & frustrate in equal measure & that’s what makes them so interesting.
So, here’s a place to tell…knock yourselves out!!

We have two cats and a dog.
One of the cats will place her front feet on you so that you’ll pick her up like a baby.
The other will call to me in his loud cat voice until I say his name.It usually stops there.
The dog lets me vacuum him. All pretty cute to me.:)
The only thing the cats really do is wake me up by tapping on my face with their paws.
The dog has a very loud bark that will wake the dead. :)

My male dog is a total diva. We’ve had a lot of rain and it’s been cold, so we were laying on my settee and he starts whining. He doesn’t normally so I was trying to see what was wrong, but I didn’t see anything. This dog had held his number 2 for so long, avoiding the rain and cold, his tummy was hurting him. So I made him go out (meaning I stand in the snow watching him do his business), and he runs in happy as a clam. Ugh, pitiful little diva.

My old gal grabs your hand if you pet her anywhere but her belly, and quite strongly pushes your hand to the belly rubs. Bossy old thing.

What’s your Buddy do @ucme?

I was coming to him @KNOWITALL but seeing as you asked ;-}
Our Buddy, being a Border Collie, can be a right old handful.
So intelligent & full of energy, he’s not yet 2, his birthday being new year’s eve.
I think he’s planning on taking over the house lol he wants to be the big boss man i’m sure of it.
Makes me laugh so much though, when I let him off the lead he leaps around like a dressage horse on steroids, like really high as if powered by springs.
So loving though loves his cuddles :)

@ucme Must be a good running partner for you though, with all that young dog energy!

@KNOWITALL Ah well no!! :D
Everyone said when we got him that he should come on my runs with me, even got one of those harness leads that tie round my waist…it didn’t go well!
Basically, when he runs while on leash he only ever looks up at me, like never takes his eyes away from mine & so he runs kinda sideways like a big daft crab lol.
Meant I was constantly in fear of tripping over him or him banging into things so that soon ended, still gets plenty of exercise though, only not tethered to me.

We have a little dog…15#. He has the personality of an old man in a little dog’s body. I think the thing he does that bothers me the most is that he doesn’t understand the concept of a weekend. He wakes me up at 3 in the morning on Saturday and Sunday….just like every other day of the week if my alarm doesn’t go off. He is definitely locked into his routines!

She sits in front of the window looking out with her stuffed toy in her mouth. So cute!

Best thing I ever taught my dog was to speak, then train him to speak when he wanted in. No more scratching on the door!
Worst thing I taught him was to shake paws. Dirty paws, or paws with nails that had just been trimmed. OUCH!

I have a black Lab called Wilson. One thing I particularly love about him is how floppy he is. When he hasn’t seen me for a while, he likes to flop down in my lap (as much of him as possible, that is). He has a puppy-gait and demeanour that’s very endearing. He acts like a ragdoll in most situations unless he’s “hunting”.

Another thing I love is how he can enter a completely relaxed state absolutely anywhere. He lies on his back, ready to be petted, in the most unlikely places. Vet’s offices. On the sidewalk, upper half in the road. In crowds such as rallies (he has a sign he wears at Fridays for Future).

One thing I love only sometimes is how tenacious he can be. When he was a young dog, he managed to get his harness caught in the oven door once. He pulled down the entire oven, and it’s a miracle he wasn’t hurt. I thought he’d grown out of this stuff, but today he repeated the same thing, only with a dishwasher and an address “necklace”. All for a tiny treat that had rolled under the counter. Fortunately, the necklace had a safety ring with a predetermined breaking point. With an actual collar, he might have seriously hurt himself.

The tenacity reminds me that Labradors are working dogs. He gets plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, but I think he’s asking for a more official “job”. I’m looking into volunteering at a nursing home with him now, maybe that will at least soothe his endless need for being cuddled.
