A meaning to life would imply that there is a reason, which there isn’t. Life just is.

In my relationships, in particular my wife & kids.
Their love, warmth & tenderness is a reflection of how I have loved them.

@ucme -Have they ever given you a bad review?
I occasionally would give my hub a rating from one to ten on a markerboard.
It has been awhile though so I need to do that.

@lucillelucillelucille Oh god yeah :D
Who wants to live like The Brady Bunch?

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ucme I do. I want Peter to sing me the song about clowns never laughing. Not Greg. Peter.

I did in raising my family, my work with students as a librarian, and now mainly as a loving friend and as a member of my Unitarian Universalist faith community. And in the appreciation and creation of art and the enjoyment of reading and movies.

In concentrating on my education despite the ups and downs I’m facing, for I hope to discover that I can acquire a skill that will make me feel better about myself and also pay the bills.

I find meaning in the never ending questions I have about life.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@mazingerz88 -Have you ever got the most pressing ones answered?

mazingerz88's avatar

Yes. By and by they come fleeting then quickly disappear in the ether. Once in a rare while I do manage to write them down.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@mazingerz88 – I got a few answers about something I’d wondered about for a long time. It was a relief and a gift.
It seems the answers you forget have a way of reappearing.

mazingerz88's avatar

Yes, yes they do!

Took me a while to find my notes on two potential answers for some questions I had. I don’t even remember the questions anymore.

I. If you do everything out of love in a day, you would suffer no loss.

II. As long as you are able to find the courage to survive, you ought to find the courage to be happy.

I used to think I could find satisfaction from doing for others, helping others, giving to others.
That thinking led to nothing.
Now I am focused on making me happy.

For me “meaning in life” means leaving a Legacy behind after one is gone.
I have completed a Family History Book of which I am sure is a start for the next Generation to add too?

I still am jotting down the stories of the past in our family as a record for the future.

I am doing what I like now that I am retired and don’t have a clock to punch in.

I like the outdoors in nature and had moved from a major city to a National park of which I love it immensely.

I help others when I can in whatever way is comfortable and do able to do.

I thank others that do things out of courtesy , such as holding the door open etc as many take it for granted.

I try new things such as yesterday I went for the first time on a Ice walk in the Maligne Canyon floor bed. ( 3 km) and took over 200 photographs of which I share with a friend in France and she does the same when she is doing something new etc

I still learn new things like restoring old images, new software, etc

I feel if one is looking for meaning in life then do meaningful things no matter how small or big.

Doing the right thing is always best.

If bored with ones life then one is in transition onto changing it up to something one would like it to be.

@lucillelucillelucille I have a DUM. I don’t click on anything to view something because it takes too long to download.

@lucillelucillelucille Where do you find meaning in your life?

I know right, it’s always going missing.

Usually I find it in the oddest of places.

If things go missing I say to myself, “Where would the Earl of Ucme look?”, very fast several times.

That’s how I found the odd socks, the extra coat hangers and the meaning of life last time.

As Willy was wont to say, “To do or not to do, that’s a fine how do you do.”

What about you?

Jons_Blond's avatar

I find meaning by being honest and kind. Some people don’t like it and I’m stupid to let their opinions of me bother me. That’s my kindness letting people walk all over me.

Fuck me and fuck them. :D

mazingerz88's avatar

^^I’ll add that to my list of Life’s Meaning. Coming in hot at No. 18…Fuck It.

Helping others, especially those that many would prefer not or don’t know how to help. I spent a lot of time working and volunteering with hospice, I’m looking into beginning foster care (which has been a plan for years), I tend to connect with and manage relationships with people who have what most would consider “difficult” personalities and I have volunteered with several programs to connect with and feed people who are economically disadvantaged or homeless. I feel most like myself when I am in a position to help people find their own hope and their own way out of tough situations, which in turn always seems to help me, so I guess that is another purpose that matters a great deal to me. Self-improvement, personal growth, being the best me that I can be. That gives my life meaning, too.

@Pinguidchance -I have found it under the couch cushions and at the end of the cat’s whiskers.

@Jonsblond -I would bet the people who like you far outnumber the others.
