Tip question #1: In this instance, would you give the body shop owner a tip?

Asked by jca2 (16271points) December 4th, 2021

My car is in the body shop for some minor damage from an auto accident. I also go to the body shop once a year for my annual state auto inspection. I don’t use the shop for other repairs, as I get repairs and maintenance at the Honda dealer.

Since it’s the holiday season, when I pick my car up this week, should I give the body shop guy and his wife (who is the office worker) a bottle of liquor as a holiday tip “gift” or no gift?

No tip. Unless you tip the actual guy who did the work.
And if you do, do it in cash. The guy will appreciate it more.

If the spirit moves you, tip!

I would only tip the person who did the work and send a Happy Holiday card to the office. I don’t think I’d give a bottle of liquor – I know a lot of people who don’t drink. If they didn’t, they’d just give it to someone else.

I don’t think bringing a bottle of wine would be inappropriate but I don’t think it’s necessary. I ordered a pizza lunch delivered for the guys in my auto repair shop last year but they do a lot for me very graciously.

I don’t think you need to tip, but I am sure it will be appreciated if you do. I never gift alcohol unless I know for sure the person drinks.
