I have a friend that keeps two horses boarded in a stable in Plant City. You might want to try looking around that area or Lithia. I am not sure which one for certain she keeps her horses but there are a ton of ranches in that area.

Oh! Ha, this is a question for me. I used to go to this great stable where they’d take you on two hour nature rides. You got to cross rivers, ponds, go through woods. And the horses were lovable warm creatures. I’m gonna see if I can find the name of it. I haven’t been in about eight years, but I doubt it’s changed much.

It was in the Tampa Bay area.

When I used to live in Miami, Davie was a very horse-centered area and included quite a rodeo circuit (as opposed to Ocala further north which is horse racing and thoroughbreds). A quick search shows that the Bar-B-Ranch in Davie offers riding trips – check them out at http://www.miamibeach411.com/news/index.php?/news/comments/horseback-riding/ where it says:

“With its weekly rodeos, cowpoke personality, and sprawling palm nurseries, offbeat Davie makes a quirky contrast to the urban sophistication of the surrounding area, a fading reminder of a simpler South Florida of not so long ago. And, when in Davie, there’s no better way to experience its leisurely pleasures than riding high in the saddle at the Bar-B-Ranch (3500 Peaceful Ridge Rd., (954) 424–1060). ”

@ asmo – I’d be interested in that horse farm near Tampa too. We have a place in Dunedin.

Have you looked in Brandon, Fl? Near Tampa? We have family in Ocala – but that isn’t close to where you are looking. By south Florida, are you talking near the Dade and Broward County (Miami/ Ft Lauderdale) area?

Ideally Tampa would be the place to look, but I’m willing to drive a little. I love animals and all I want to do is have time to pet and play with the horses, and go at my own pace… you know, if we want to go faster or slower without having to really consider too many other people.

I’ve been thinking about the place and I can’t remember. I’m sorry, I’ll try my mom again. :)
