Do the cool people only answer certain questions?

Asked by steve6 (2569points) February 7th, 2009

I skip the majority, only a few pique my interest. Does anyone else do this. (Rider; this is not a self promoting question.)

Just joking, please don’t hate me.

Are there people here who aren’t cool? ;)

(And, lurve for “pique.” So nice to not see it spelled “peek” or “peak.”)

I try to use the perfect word sometimes.

Who am I kidding? I’m obsessed with it.

No “sight”. See my avatar.

ok i spelled it wrong

I’d say that is basically how most people do it. Some just have more interests than others.

I pick and choose the questions I answer. I only chime in on the questions where I add input of value.

I have seen a lot of people here who post non-answers just to get a few points, or to take stabs at others, I try to ignore those.

I think if you can not add valuable input, you should not post, I am in a minority

well, not everything applies to everyone. i’ve never had a cervical exam, for example (given some though wink), or what’s there to do in Podunk, North Dakota – i dunno.

other times, the topic simply is not interesting.

but mostly, i’m really cool. and sexy (you should call me sometime).

I go for in balance answering questions.

I do have a lot of interests, and if my answer helps, I pitch in. Some questions are just for a bit of fun, yet those fun questions will give me better insight into myself and others than not.

One time someone’s question title asked something like “How do you cope with your [some sort of disease]?” As I jerkoffishly took the ‘you’ to mean myself, I answered “I don’t suffer from [whatever that disease was], so I don’t have to cope with it.” I’m pretty sure I got a PM from the poster calling me an a-hole. Otherwise I answer Qs I think I have an opinion about.

This Q makes me want to answer every question posted from now on (and I mean every). Do you all think I would achieve Fluther fame for being that guy who answers every Q regardless of whether he knows what he’s talking about?

@DrBill: If people only gave straightforward answers to questions, there would be little to no sense of community, and the site would be a much less warm and fuzzy place. If not for that element of playfulness, there would be little to recommend the site over some survey forum or Wikipedia.

@Jayne Agreed.

I think we all answer the questions that appeal to us for whatever reason. Sometimes it’s because we feel we can offer a straightforward answer or provide insight, other times just because it’s fun or funny. The site is pretty fluid, just the way I like it. :)

mxilla's avatar

I’m too cool to answer this.

millastrellas's avatar

@queenzboulevard, that is kinda too funny. i think you should do it. ha. though in time.. people will either start skipping your responses and not reading them, or actually looking forward to reading what nonsense (assuming you don’t know what you are talking about). you posted.

I agree with Augustlan, I only answer the questions that interest me, or that I feel I have some valuable opinion towards it.

I don’t think there is a differentiation that separates people when it comes to what question they will or wont answer. I believe we are all the same there.

There is a separation when it comes to conversation with in the answers that will or wont be inclusive depending on who you are and who is involved. Almost a “sub-moderator” level.

It can kinda make you feel like that little dog that follows the big bull dog in those sylvester cartoons if you let it. Especially if your just trying to contribute. It bothered me at first but I learned who mattered to me and who I mattered to and on what level. That and I relaxed the hell up a bit.

I’m not here either. Oh wait. I am. Damn, I always wanted to be cool. Blew it again.

I think it is fair to say that certain people will answer certain types of questions, and that people with similar interests will often answer the same questions, meaning that there will be groups of people who tend to congregate on the same threads. Feel free to label one of those groups cool.
I’ll make it worth your while to include me in that group.

asmonet's avatar

I answer anything I feel I can contribute to. I end up on a lot of questions because they interest me or I have information. Eh, dunno, some I skip intentionally. Most of the time I skim them all.

jonsblond's avatar

Only if the question is cool.

guess you’re cool @steve6 ;)

90s_kid's avatar

Why am I answering this? I’m too cool 8)
Just Kidding; Cool is the new average joe.
I hate the term “We’re to cooooool to do this.”
Flabbergaster!! had to say it, sorry
I answer whenever.

cwilbur's avatar

I answer when the question is interesting, and when I have something worthwhile to say about the matter.

Horus515's avatar

I usually only answer a question is I actually have an answer or if I can’t resist saying something that I think is funny.
