Besides medicine, what is the best way to soothe a cough?

sit over a pot of steaming water with a towel over your head. honey works well too.

Honey and lemon.

You are going to think I’m crazy, but slather Vick’s Vapo Rub on your feet and put socks on before going to bed. I know several people who swear this works, so I tried on my daughter and myself. Darn if it didn’t work. I have know idea why.

I already tried honey and the bottle in our house tastes terrible. Ill try thing that don’t involve it for now.

@supacase, I’ll pick up a bottle or pack or whatever and try it.

i wish i knew a perfect solution to this. my only ideas besides medicine are the ‘spoon of honey’ solution, and just having a hard candy to keep in your mouth at all times. neither always work though, and are quite temporary. ):

@Supacase perhaps it’s a sugar pill sort of thing. The mind does wonders.

@ABoyNamedBoobs03 Very true. The only thing that makes me think there might be something to it is that my daughter was too young to have an opinion one way or the other (husband and I were divided on it) and she was asleep when we put it on her feet. It could still be a fluke, I’m sure.

Chicken soup or hot and very sweet chamomile tea do the trick for me.

The Vicks on the feet really does work. I’ve tried it myself and swear by it now!

@Fred931 Find out the cause of the cough and treat that. And since when do guys not RECEIVE oral sex?

Vicks NyQuil and a humidifier.
Lots of water and rest too.

@Supacase Interesting. I definitely need to try that!

Also you can rub the Vicks all over your chest and warm a little towel up in the microwave and put it on your chest with the Vicks. And like @jonsblond said, a humidifier really helps.

@Supacase I think the vabor still works the same as if it would on your chest it is just dulled down some by being on your feet??

Fix yourself a hot toddy. Or just lemon juice, honey and whiskey. Or just tea and honey and lemon if you don’t want the alcohol.

Or just whiskey. Heat it up with a little hot water and drink it fast before the alcohol dissipates. Then a little nap.

Whisky. Don’t even need to be warm. And it’s tasty as well :D
