Asked by lovablelion (45points) December 9th, 2009 from iPhone

My daughter is twelve and I have no idea what to give her! This is terrible! I should know. But I’m not hip and into that stuff. She likes electronics! What stuff shall I get her?

An iTouch or iPhone? Or you could ask her.

Maybe a Wii?

Ask, I know when I was a kid I didn’t like surprise presents. Haha.

Have you asked her?

Nintendo DS? The Style Savvy game you can get for it looks like something a 12 y/o girl would love.

And 12 year-olds are hip? Get her a tv dinner and a six-pack and tell her to share with her father. You’ll be the coolest mom on the block. Or at least in the house.

Definitely ask her what she’d like. What electronics does she have already? If she has a music player (iPod, Zen, Zune) get her an iTunes gift card. If she has a Wii or DS, or Playstation, get her some games.

Chances are at her age she likes clothes, too, so you could get a few outfits from a nice store. Just include gift receipts in case she doesn’t like something or they don’t fit exactly.

What hobbies does she enjoy? Art? You could get her a nice art set with pastels, paints, charcoal pencils, and nice paper. Music? Piano/clarinet/etc. lessons. Maybe tickets to see her favorite performer.

So many great books for pre-teens.
“The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” by Ann Brashares (and three sequels)
“The Princess Diaries” by Meg Cabot (and a million sequels)
etc.
Accessories: tights and leg-warmers are in now, earrings, hat/scarf/mittens, a cool bag.

Does she have hobbies? I played musical instruments so I’d get more books or like cool violin accessories at that age.

There are always services, such as facials. Better yet, get side-by-side pedicures for you and her. My mom will give me a certificate for them. Relaxing, cool toenail polish, and, most importantly, mother/daughter bonding.

Well, i would entirely avoid Twilight, as the later books have some..questionable..material.

How about a surprise shopping trip? She could choose the store, and you could go with her to watch her buy what she wanted. Kids love picking out their own stuff.

If your family already has an account, some downloads of her choice from the iTunes store.

@sliceswiththings I also like the idea of books. If she likes Harry Potter, I would highly recommend the Percy Jackson and The Olympians series. There will be a movie coming out soon based on the first book!

Oh also bedroom decoration stuff. Cool sheets. A beaded hanging for the door. String lights.

In full seriousness, i’d recommend books. A great book i read around that age was “The Book of Three”. It’s the first in the Chronicles of Prydain series, a fantasy series for young adults. It is a bit boring at times, though, be warned! if not, i’d suggest the books “Hoot” or “Flush”, both by Carl Hiassen (spelling?)

Rock climbing lessons. Exercise is healthy. And she can say she did it and be the coolest girl in the 7th grade lol

@Facade – That is an excellent idea!

@Facade I love it, as well. :)

ask her, she’s at an age where it’s better to be able to get something that she wants, but is useable too.
