Tell him what about Santa?

Never don’t lie to your kids then the’ll be less honest people.

I told mine when they were in about 4th or 5th grade. They all already suspected as much by the time I told them the truth. I think anytime you feel they are ready to handle it, as long as you do it well.

@pouncey

Absolutely false. Can’t wait for this tired old argument to start up again.

I think I was around 5 or so. Lasted for a few years.

As soon as they started questioning it, it’s better to tell them the truth. I think my child was around 7–8 years old when they started having doubts about Santa’s existence.

When you first tell them about Christmas

Do you mean there is no SANTA? Of course there is a Santa. I still beleive there is one!!
Who brings all the good stuff that is under the tree on Christmas Morning? Not me, or anyone else I know. Without Santa, there would not be Christmas!!

If I have kids, I’d rather not lie to them about this. Then, I won’t have to worry about admitting lies to them later on.

Welcome to fluther @john65pennington – here’s some starter lurve. I was 10 when they told me, but then, I’m Jewish so it didn’t matter much. He never brought me anything after that.

When you’re in your mid thirties, you can tell your kids that they’ll still get stuff even if they don’t wiggle in Santa’s lap regardless of what Santa says.

Let them find out by themselves. No need to but in.

Like I said in another thread, I found out when I was four or five. My parents are divorced, which actually makes Christmas kind of cool as a kid because you go to two different Christmas celebrations. At my mom’s house, mom and santa both had red wrapping paper. At my dad’s house, dad and santa both had green wrapping paper. Not too slick, parents.

There was no specific age in my house.

Santa Claus was simply “put in his place” when mom got fed up with the kids acting privileged with their Christmas list demands.
