How are you able to keep up with all these questions?

Asked by ItalianPrincess1217 (11979points) December 14th, 2009 from iPhone

Call me crazy but there seems to be a huge flood of new questions on Fluther now. I went one day without logging on and I came back the next day to find that I had 42 new alerts! My “Questions For You” had never been so full in one day.
Have you notcied this? How are adjusting? Does it irritate you or are you happy to see so many questions flooding the website? I just feel like I’m unable to keep up with it all! And it almost seems as if the quality of the questions have decreased a bit…

Simple. I ignore my work.

yes it probably is true all of us displaced ABers have flooded your pages of Fluther we do not mean to intrude but are looking for a new place to call home hope we can maintain in peace the existance you once knew…but be of assistance also

I can’t keep up with them all, but I do like that the pace of Fluther has picked up a bit. But I’ve noticed that there are a lot of questions, but people aren’t really answering them very much. In another thread I asked a former ABer about it, and she said that part of the culture there was asking a ton of questions, and not stopping to answer often. So there are thousands and thousands of unanswered questions over there. I don’t know what to think about that.

It’s been insane here lately, good thing I don’t focus on studying and doing the other things I should be doing. I would love to know how many Starfish awards have been given out to the community in the last few days.

@Gossamer You’re fine! It’ll settle down naturally. Welcome to Fluther!

@Haleth I went over to ab and took a peek. It was pages of questions with one or no answers. It was sad, like lonely question tumbleweeds.

Gossamer's avatar

@val123 thank you for the welcome indeed

@Gossamer Don’t take offense! I think it was just meant to be a discussion on the frequency change, not on the side of negativity. Besides, there have been many interesting questions from new users! It’s exciting, if a bit overwhelming!

It’s true, they’re coming so fast, I now have to pick and choose, which is not entirely bad. I certainly wouldn’t be able to keep up with more than a few had I not recently finished with finals though!

Gossamer's avatar

@beta orionis no offense taken just putting out there we dont mean to overwhelm you but our newness to your page and makin the change has messed up our normal routine just as much yours =)

Beta_Orionis's avatar

@Gossamer I wouldn’t say it’s messed it up, so much as it has mixed it up! Welcome to Fluther!

@Gossamer Don’t worry, it’s not necessarily a bad thing to have so many newbies! It’s actually kind of nice to see Fluther start picking up a bit. It was starting to really slow down before you ABer’s came. And I’m sure it will die down eventually. But for now it’s a little more difficult for me to keep up with the flood of questions! And I don’t exactly like how there are fewer answers to the questions. It’s sad :(

Frankly, I’m not able. Heh. :\

Having nothing to do all day seems to help.

It was always a mass of questions at AB, thousands… I like the slower pace here. I was kinda surprised to see so many answers to my questions here..usually serious questions were ignored and the silly ones got the most answers. ducks It is really nice to get actual answers and help. It’s also nice I can give a serious answer and know it is helping someone. =)

before it gets said again..no I am not buttkissing. =Z I am very serious. I should change my user name

When I have a big number of them, I delete the whole thing. I wish there was a way that I’d get NONE. I’LL decide what questions I want to answer. I don’t need someone telling me what I’d be interested in. I wish that option wasn’t even there. A couple weeks ago, it was posted that there wouldn’t be so many of them. PPFFTT. Uh-huh.

casheroo's avatar

It’s a big influx, I’d say moreso than when we had the wis.dm migration…they didn’t seem to make a question about everything. thankfully
I’m OCD and must at least browse my questions for me, but I remove the ones I’m not interested in.

AstroChuck's avatar

It’s all these starving former ABers. Welcome to the Fluther buffet!

Val123's avatar

@casheroo That’s just the question format we were brainwashed into using all for three years! We didn’t know we were doing anything wrong….

tinyfaery's avatar

I’m glad you asked this. I have been really overwhelmed by all the questions. So much so that I am hardly answering anything. I’m scared…

MacBean's avatar

@tinyfaery: I know how you feel!

YARNLADY's avatar

I’m on my laptop for hours and hours every day. When I run out of questions to answer here I visit some of the other Q & A sites I participate in, but I’ve been spending more time here and less time visiting around. I actually had one of my blog contacts write and ask where I’ve been lately.

RubyReds's avatar

Keep up? Not me!! Mission impossible between work, home and being here and there and everywhere!! (”,)

Val123's avatar

@tinyfaery and @MacBean “Scared?” Why?

MacBean's avatar

@Val123: “Overwhelmed” is more accurate than “scared” for me, I guess. The sudden influx of new people to get used to has made me a bit nervous/anxious. I’m sure I’ll get to know the folks who decide to stick around, and then I’ll return to my usual comfort level. It’s just not an overnight process, that’s all.

Val123's avatar

@MacBean Interesting. Maybe it’s because I’ve only been here a couple of months, but I hardly even notice, really!

tinyfaery's avatar

Too many people. The people. The people. Scary…

Val123's avatar

@tinyfaery Don’t worry! I’ll take care of you!! They can’t hurt you! They’re only teeny tiny imaginary internet people. They aren’t real!

MacBean's avatar

@Val123: You really haven’t noticed!? Wow! I have to find an answer I gave on another question, and copy and paste part of it here…

“I used to be able to check Fluther once in a 24-hour period and I would have maybe 25 items in “Questions for You” and I’d spend perhaps thirty minutes going through the whole day’s questions and picking out the ones I wanted to answer. Since the ABers showed up, I have 40+ Questions for Me within six or seven hours, and if I don’t go through the main page at least three or four times a day, I fall so hopelessly behind that I can’t catch up!”

Val123's avatar

@MacBean Ah. Well, see, for me, before the mods changed the parameters, I’d get maybe 25 questions in a 24 hour period. After the change I was only getting, maybe, 5 questions in a 24 hour period. But now I’m back up to 25 so…for me it’s not much of a change! It’s due to my newbie status, I’m sure. Plus I don’t have the instinctive feel yet that this or that user name is totally new to us…..also, I don’t particularly worry about answering all of those quesitions. Out of 25 I’ll answer, maybe 2, and disregard the rest. They really should have a “clear all” option.

YARNLADY's avatar

I look at the “Activity for you” first, then the “Questions for you”. They keep disappearing on me, it will read 99 questions at one point, then suddenly say 58. The questions are still on the “new” page, just not for me anymore.
@Val123 There is a clear all option – click on “Questions for you”, then look near the middle of the page, there is a red “Remove All” option.

YARNLADY's avatar

I found out one thing that makes question for you disappear is when I click on “not interested” on my list. Not only the one I marked, but sometimes several others disappear.
