Do you know any tasty and hearty appetizer recipes?

Asked by sjmc1989 (5499points) January 12th, 2010

Tomorrow I am going to a girlfriends house and a few of us are meeting up and having a girls evening. I am usually really good at thinking of appetizers to bring at gathering, but there is only four of us. The appetizers I usually bring are just snack food and are not very filling. I am looking for heartier dishes, since it is a small group. Also, I am not going to have a lot of time so I really don’t want it to be long to prep. Thank you so much for your responses ahead of time.

Ps. Sorry for the very unoriginal question, but I did search it and I could not find anything.

Hmmm…
Perhaps some calamari ?
I haven’t used this recipe, but it seems easy enough.

How about mini quiches?

Stop at the deli. Get some sliced meat and cheese, some crackers…maybe a veggie tray with some dip. There are always several different kinds of salad you could try. They come in pints or quarts, I think. Yaaay deli! No prep time at all!

(P.S. Kudos for the “sex” listing in topics)

Meatballs of some type would be good. There is a kind you can throw in a crock pot with a jar of sauce and mmmmgoood. I don’t know that brands.

bruschetta; do it in a couple different ways – standard, celery and olive based, pesto salsa based, bean based. Serve it with a plate of different cheeses and maybe some roasted figs to pair with them, and a couple different bottles of good wine.

@All thanks for your responses so far, but I forgot to add that I cannot do anything with eggs.

A platter of assorted sushi from the deli.

If you don’t want to put in that much effort, pillsbury savorings are pretty good. They’re little pillsbury rolls filled with different flavors of cheese. My other favorite appetizer is to get some crusty bread or the toasted bread rounds that you use for bruschetta. Serve them with some nice cheese, some prosciutto, and some fig spread. You can get all this stuff at whole foods or at a nice deli. It goes great with red wine. :)

Humus!

Blend one (rinsed) can of garbanzo bans
one clove of garlic (peeled)
juice of one half lemon
Two tablespoons olive oil
Serve with (store bought and warmed in Microwave or oven) pita cut into sixths

Hearty, healthy, easy!

Here is a recipe for Hot Artichoke Dip. It is delicious and quite filling when served with rounds of toasted buttered French bread.

Get a loaf of french bread, some plum tomatoes, garlic cloves, fresh basil, and fresh mozzarella (you know, the kind you buy at the deli in the shape of a ball). Our deli sells three sizes of fresh mozzarella, and I get the medium-sized kind.

Slice the bread into thin slices, maybe ½ inch thick. Spread it out on a baking sheet and bake at 350 until lightly toasted. Rub the bread slices with a fresh clove of garlic. Slice the tomatoes and cheese into rounds, and top each bread slice with a slice of tomato and a slice of cheese. Refrigerate until you’re ready to serve it—it’s perfectly fine cold. Just before you serve it, chop up the basil and sprinkle it over the whole thing.

Very easy, simple, and tastier than I can possibly describe. You can go easy on the garlic or go crazy…I like to go crazy. Mmm mmm garlic!

Another thing we love, even though it’s horribly bad for you, is to take a jar of queso dip and stir it together with a can of chili. Warm it up and serve with tortilla chips.
