Is marshmallow fondant better tasting than regular fondant?

Asked by food (792points) January 27th, 2010

I´ve only made regular fondant, and have heard that it´s easier to manage than marshmallow fondant. However, I´m wondering if it´s worth it to try marshmallow fondant, if it tastes better….

Marshmallow fondant tastes of vanillin (artificial vanilla flavor), because marshmallows are loaded with it. If that appeals, you could get the same result by adding vanillin to regular fondant. It’s sold as artificial vanilla flavor in the spice section of supermarkets (adding real vanilla would discolor the fondant).

That’s the only significant taste difference.

What ever happen to just using some frosting/icing.

Never liked fondant. Seems like a cheat to me. :-)

Interesting, so it´s controversial…. well, that means I´ll have to try marshmallow fondant at least once to see what I think of it….
I do agree that fondant is too heavy… The only reason I´m using it is to try and make some figurines or characters. I´ll probably stick to buttercream and then just add a couple of fondant figurines, though. Especially since it´s so hard to roll out without getting wrinkles in it.
