When you find your old dusty pokemon red or blue version game, what does it make you think of?

Asked by bigboss (990points) January 30th, 2010

Any nostalgia? what memories exactly?

to me it reminds me of being raised in florida and middle school with my best friend mark. 2 geeks that used to spend their days talking about pokemon and dragon ball Z. (thats when pokemon first came out and was big shit)

Lots if nostalgic moments come to mind, like begging my parents to buy batteries every week so I could play it.

I’ve only got the Crystal Version when my sister got the Gameboy Advanced and oh boy, did I go to great lengths to sneak away the Gameboy from under her pillow to play into the depths of the night in order to beat the ‘Elite Four’. I remember that one.

And I remember wanting to kick myself for every time I forgot to save the game or the battery ran out first without giving me the opportunity to.
Grr.

Hah, trying to capture MewTwo like a billion times…

@PhillyCheese omg i hated that! i would always have to hunt down batteries from different appliances in the house and try so many at home “recharging” myths to make my batteries work just a few more minutes..i was addicted

@clarice yea i hated those moments. but i would just go back and play it all over.

@The_Idler remember the whole mew event. i loved that lil bastard.

The oldest version I ever played was the green version. It reminds me when I and my sister were fighting to get the chance to play this game. Somehow I prefer the ‘dark’ version from all.

My son and I started with yellow. I had/have an original gameboy I used to play with while I was traveling. I played legend of zelda and tetris and golf. Will was pretty little and lacked the patience to beat the first gym, so I had to take his game and get him started then he would happily play. Next thing I know, I had a gameboy color and pokemon yellow. Boy batteries lasted pretty good on the GBC.

yea they did…plus it only needed 2 batteries unlike the original gameboy (which i have as well) that needed four. dont even get me started on the sega game gear that needed 8 BATTERIES..EIGHT!..or was it 6..i dont remember. shit was awesome though i loooove zelda links awakening and link to the past. love love love them.

Helping my younger siblings collect all 150 pokemon.

Surfing up and down the edge of that island to get unlimited master balls and to catch missingno.

I don’t have my Pokemon Red anymore because I defenestrated it after getting my ass kicked by some fuck called a Jigglypuff.

It reminds me of my childhood friends. We played together all the time at summer camp. But the killer for me is that I wrote my name on the back of all the cartridges in that very recognizably childish and clumsy scrawl, with a Sharpie, and now it’s pretty faded.

I have a nostalgia drawer in my desk and it holds the Red, Blue, Yellow and Gold versions, among a bunch of other stuff.
