Do you "worship the sunshine"? why?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) April 27th, 2010

There has to be a thousand reasons why we love the sunshine, other than survival on earth. is it the thoughts of a having a great tan, wanting our crops to grow, an emotional situation, that winter and cold weather is finally over, or is the love of the sun just in some of our genes? so, what does a bright, sunny day mean to you?

I just like the instant high I get stepping outside in a pair of flip flops realizing it’s so bright I need sunglasses.

And occasionally the beach… My complexion doesn’t like it as much as my heart does.

Yes. I’m British. It’s what we do. As long as it’s sunny we’ll be out in shorts, tshirts, and sunglasses, studiously ignoring the fact that it’s Febuary and very cold.

It means I can play outside and not get rained on!

For me it means sunscreen, long shirts and sweat. My meds don’t let me enjoy the sun much anymore- feels more like acid on my skin. A good rainy day makes me smile and go outside to enjoy the space. I like watching all the people outside on a sunny day. I sit in my window chair and smile as they go by- the couple holding hands, the mom chasing a giggling toddler and the dog enjoying some freedom.

I don’t. I never look forward to summer as my mental health is in a worse state during the summer months than the winter. I can’t deny that I like my skin when it is dark and there are times when I enjoy being out and about during the summer but, on the whole, winter is a lot easier for me to cope with.

Taciturnu, love your answer. i never could negotiate a pair of flipflops. i have three pair that are still brand new from 30 years ago. they go airborne each time i take a step.

I love the sun. I love warm weather. I love being tan and wearing cute summer clothes. But when it’s blistering hot outside, I must say, I hate it. My car’s air conditioning decided to break so I’m not exactly looking forward to those 90 degree days.

@john65pennington Perhaps they’re a little large? I hate to say it, but it might be time for a new pair. I’ve converted a few people who didn’t think they liked or could wear flip flops for various reasons. Try a pair of Reefs, Teva or Rocketdog flip flops on the next time you’re in a shoe store. If you buy them snug, they have a lot of give but don’t fly off like you’re talking about. :)

I feel like I get a “sunshine” high when I step out on a bright sunny day. It makes me happy, especially after the long winter we have just been through. I like to tan, but don’t do it as often now that I worry about skin cancer.

I grew up in Las Vegas, so I’m used to temperatures of 90 being “cool” for summer. I’m excited by extreme heat. I remember one day in Vegas where the high temperature was 115. It was so hot no one was advised to go outside. I remember recesses being canceled due to heat, but there was air-conditioning everywhere and lots of pools. :)

While I don’t necessarily want to be in such extreme desert weather like that, I really do love the sun and supposedly, I get a lot of it being in California. Well, it’s April 27th and it’s raining here in Palo Alto. We have had not so great weather this year. The rest of the country is seeing temperatures in the ‘80s and it’s 57 here and raining. However, it does kind of look like after this, it’s going to be sunny and warm for a long time…

I love the sun because I love the bright atmosphere, things are fun when it’s sunny, there are more things to do when it’s sunny, warm weather is better than cold weather, etc. It’s just all-around better.

I love the sunshine! A bright sunny day to me means I will be happy and productive. It boosts my mood by casting a glow on everything around me. Colors seem brighter, people seem happier, the world just seems to buzz along with vibrancy.

I don’t worship it. I like it, but because of my Irish skin I have to take more precautions than most people I know to keep my skin its freakishly white tone. Otherwise I’m a lobster.

I do like the feeling of the warm sun on my skin, though, as long as I’m lathered up in 55 SPF sunscreen.
