I think O Brother, Where Art Thou is just dandy; not sure how I’d decide which is the best one ever.

I really hate to say this, but I have enjoyed the sountracks from the Twilight movies. I don’t really know how the songs fit in the movies, but the songs themselves are excellent.

/dies a little inside

- The Graduate—it’s practically a Simon & Garfunkel album.

I like the soundtrack for We Were Soldiers a whole lot. And also from Forrest Gump. There is a huge range of well-known songs from multiple decades, plus an excellently written score.

There was a movie a number of years ago entitled Country starring Jessica Lange, Sam Shepherd and Wilford Brimley about a family trying to save their farm. The soundtrack is magical and haunting.

As for my top “10” (in no particular order):
– River’s Edge (1986)
– Conan The Barbarian (1982)
– The Truman Show (1998)
– Repo Man (1984)
– Apocalypse Now (1979)
– Donnie Darko (2001)
– Pulp Fiction (1994),
– Withnail and I (1987)
– American Psycho (2000)
– A Clockwork Orange (1971)
– 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

A few people have already mentioned Garden State (2004). Very good stuff too that.

Good Luck!
