Do you think it will be bad for Segway sales that the owner of the company died when he drove one off a cliff?

Is this the start of Skynet, where intelligent machines start killing their owners?

Nope! I bet their sales go crazy! I knew about those vehicles they buzz around cities on but I did not know that they had these off road versions like the one the owner was riding when he went sailing off that cliff. They look way cool and I want one now and I am sure a lot of other people will now want one too! No such thing as bad publicity!

It could be straight from The Onion.

You’ll probably get a new breed of “X-treme!” Segway riders.

Oh, I forgot, the threat of dying is a GOOD thing these days.

@BarnacleBill Look up Jimi Heselden on Google News and you’ll see quite a few news stories from different sources saying the same thing. This is the real deal.

It’s very ironic that he died this way… Not quite as ironic as if he had been the inventor of the Segway, but still. According to this article there have been only 41 Segway-related injuries from April 2005 to 2008, and none of them resulted in death… until now. Makes you wonder if it was really an accident.

I don’t know if people will stop using Segways. They’re pretty widespread now. If it was earlier, closer to when they were first released to the public, the impact would probably be worse.

Of course not. The number of automobile fatalities in the world hasn’t impacted the number of automobile sales in the world.

@ParaParaYukiko The instant I heard this, I thought it could be suicide. We’ll see what the coroner’s report says, but if I were a reporter, I’d be asking around to talk to people who could tell me what his frame of mind has been recently.

Heavens, no. Any machine can kill you, improperly used. You have to learn how to use a thing. You see Weird Al in White & Nerdy? He totally pwns that Segway.

Wow that’s crazy! I think it could help them because some idiots could want to buy it for that reason only. Or the unanimous response that I have gotton when things like that happen. “OMG I better get one b4 they stop selling them. I mean they owner DIED. They r bound to tke them off the market” So it could work well for Segway
