Does anyone here spontaneously orgasm upon entering cold water?

Asked by fireinthepriory (3923points) | asked 1 month ago | 68 responses | “Great Question” (14points) | Flag as…

A friend of mine told me that whenever she jumps in a body of very cold water, such as the ocean, she has an orgasm! She’s been wondering if she’s the only one who this happens to. I’m in an all-female musical group with her and she asked the entire group of 14 women during rehearsal. None of us had ever had this happen to us, or heard of it happening to anyone else. We were all pretty jealous, though.

Does this happen to any of you? Does anyone have an explanation for why it might happen? I couldn’t think of anything other than some sort of “crossed wires” in the brain.

No. Lurve the question!

Fyrius's avatar

I know some people sneeze when they look into a bright light.
Maybe that’s related. Or maybe it’s no help at all. :)

Zen's avatar

@Fyrius Sucks when you sneeze just as you orgasm, eh?!

ru2bz46's avatar

God, I wish I did!

Fyrius's avatar

@Zen
Better not go to the beach on a sunny day then.

Harp's avatar

I do whatever the opposite of an orgasm is.

Zen's avatar

@Harp You mean, you msagro?

ChazMaz's avatar

I want to go swimming with your friend!

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

no, but that sounds awesome

SpatzieLover's avatar

Is your friend multiply orgasmic, too? Just think that it could be related

When I hear things like this it makes me wonder if the person actually knows what an orgasm is. I’ve met people who talk about their orgasms, but when they describe them to me they don’t sound like orgasms at all. One example is something like “it was really good, and then suddenly it wasn’t good anymore.”

I’m no expert on other peoples’ sensations, however, so I declaim.

But it’s possible that a person who thought they had orgasms but didn’t actually have orgasms might get a similar sensation at other times (such as entering a cold body of water).

When I enter a cold body of water, two things happen:

1) I get a shiver over my whole body.
2) And I have to pee.

Blondesjon's avatar

I’m a guy. It’s kinda the opposite with us and cold water.

janbb's avatar

@Harp and @Blondesjon You mean shrinkage??

Puts a whole new spin on the idea of taking a cold shower doesn’t it?

Fyrius's avatar

@janbb
Quite so. Apparently showering a lot can make you a dirty person, too.

And I’ll pass on inserting a cross-linguistic play on the word “douche”.

DominicX's avatar

Uh…not quite. For me it’s just a period of shock as my body adjusts rapidly to the temperature. I try to avoid getting into very cold water as much as possible.

IBERnineD's avatar

That sounds wonderful! Unfortunately it does not occur to me. :(

patg7590's avatar

@Fyrius I’m one of those

Fyrius's avatar

@patg7590
You mean people with a photic sneeze reflex, people who have become a dirty person through showers, or cross-linguistic puns?

Wait, that last one probably isn’t it.

fireinthepriory's avatar

@timothykinney, I’m pretty sure she knows it’s an orgasm. She said that when she was younger she was really confused about what it was, and didn’t realize until she later began masturbating and having sex that it was an orgasm.

And @SpatzieLover, I don’t know if she’s multiply orgasmic! If she is, that would be just TOO unfair. :)

Also, I’m one of the people who sneezes when I see a bright light! It’s definitely not as exciting as cold-water orgasming, but it seems like they could be similar, mechanistically. Hmm.

derekfnord's avatar

@janbb: Just as an aside… the bit about a cold shower dousing arousal is actually an urban legend / old wives’ tale. Really, a warm shower is better for that purpose…

So that being the case, I can see where it’s possible the sudden sensation of entering cold water could make some people orgasm. Probably only women, though. Physiologically, men require a certain minimum buildup time before the eruption. ;-)

Maybe if the guy was already aroused before entering the water, that could push him over the top, though… Hmm…

Zen's avatar

@timothykinney You get a shiver?

timothykinney's avatar

@Zen Yes.

@fireinthepriory Tell me more about her orgasms.

timothykinney's avatar

@Zen I got the shakes in my thigh bone.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

Personally, for me, it’s hot water that makes me…hot. Cold water? Never. If that worked for me, I’d be in a tub of cold ewater every day. ’-)

daloon's avatar

When I’m really scared or anxious about some impending ordeal, I can masturbate myself to an orgasm in less than a minute. It’s a tension reliever for me. I can imagine being anxious about the cold water, and, if I had the right plumbing, having an orgasm when plunging in. That sounds about right. Kind of a flight or fight reflex, if that makes any sense. It helps deal with the ordeal.

Sarcasm's avatar

Nope.
There is a downstairs reaction I get, but it involves my gentlemen retreating inward.

Allie's avatar

That never happens to me. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be nice though. Gotta watch who you swim with!

MrBr00ks's avatar

Nope, doesn’t happen here, but I probably get the same look on my face regardless.

Makes me rethink the term“frigid woman” too!

AstroChuck's avatar

Wow. She should move to Alaska.

Jack79's avatar

I am male and no, never had that happen. Quite the opposite in fact, and even in a couple of cases when I’ve tried to have sex in water, it was hard to keep an erection going on due to the low temperature.

aprilsimnel's avatar

That’s an awesome gene to have. Really. Imagine what she saves on toys.

filmfann's avatar

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!

Um, I mean no.

Blondesjon's avatar

I do have a spontaneous orgasm every time somebody gives me a Great Answer.

janbb's avatar

@Blondesjon Was it good for you?

patg7590's avatar

@Fyrius the photic sneeze reflex lol

KatawaGrey's avatar

Wow! That could be like her super power or something!

SpatzieLover's avatar

@KatawaGrey lurve for the chuckle!

Zen's avatar

@KatawaGrey—Maybe, but she’d be a sidekick

augustlan's avatar

Man. Some girls have all the luck.

Dr_C's avatar

I’m guessing your friend would LOVE the frizzer thread!

fireinthepriory's avatar

@Dr_C I should show it to her! She’s a character. I think she’d get a kick out of Fluther in general, actually… Maybe I’ll introduce her, of course after reviewing all my answers/questions to make sure nothing’s too embarassing!! :)

Dr_C's avatar

@fireinthepriory you mean beside the fact that she spontaneously orgams upon contact with cold water? lol j/k.

fireinthepriory's avatar

@Dr_C Oh, no! She’d be delighted that I asked! And even more delighted by all the answers, haha, even if it doesn’t happen to anyone else. :D

SpatzieLover's avatar

@fireinthepriory I’d like to ask her a few things, myself ;D Like if she could teach us ladies how to replicate that, for one ;)

fireinthepriory's avatar

Well I showed her the thread, she may or may not appear here to answer any questions.

Also, @ChazMaz She says I’m free to give you her number. :D

sliceswiththings's avatar

Hi! I’m the friend in question! So no one’s as lucky as me?

SpatzieLover's avatar

@sliceswiththings <bows to knees> You’re user name should be “ColdWater” ;) Maybe your avatar could be the ocean or a great lake?

aprilsimnel's avatar

@sliceswiththings – Or any lake, really, since for you, they’re all great! ;D

sliceswiththings's avatar

@ABoyNamedBoobs03 “Easiest woman to please ever”...I wish!! I actually have a really hard time getting off—except for this phenomenon.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@sliceswiththings So that answers my question regarding multiple organisms then

janbb's avatar

@sliceswiththings Welcome to Fluther! You sure landed with a splash!

sliceswiththings's avatar

Thanks! @daloon “flight or fight” wouldn’t that be nice if it happened with every adrenaline rush?

ru2bz46's avatar

Maybe @sliceswiththings should date Frosty the Snowman…

Zen's avatar

This question keeps popping up in my inbox, and I cna’t seem to hit the Stop Following button – it cracks me up!

SpatzieLover's avatar

@Zen Me too! That frosty comment killed me and then made me think

What about @sliceswiththings having Jack Frost pay her an extra special visit? ;D

augustlan's avatar

Jack Frost nipping at her… um, nose.

@sliceswiththings Welcome to Fluther!

patg7590's avatar

@sliceswiththings welcome to Fluther!
Now, everytime I see a spontaneous orgasm thread, I think of you…

KatawaGrey's avatar

@patg7590: How many are there?

patg7590's avatar

@KatawaGrey does anyone here watch Arrested Development? remember when Tobias has the corn dog and stands up and yells:
“There are dozens of us… DONZENS!”
thats what I just thought of.

(aside) I wonder if there’s a secret subculture for spontaneous water orgasmers like there is for never-nudes

sliceswiththings's avatar

@patg7590 Love Arrested Development. I’ll have to find my subculture somehow! @augustlan the Jack Frost comment cracked me up as well.

heretodaygonetomorrow's avatar

Well, guess what? I googled upon this topic while looking to see if this could happen to anyone else! This has been happening to me before I was old enough to know what was going on…..I’m a male and figured I might run across men talking about this. I think it’s pretty cool to find out there’s a woman out there with this same quirk.

It can be pretty embarrassing for a man. Bathing suits and oceans aren’t a big deal, but try attempting to cross a shallow river while hiking or having a hail storm roll in and clog drains at an amusement park, creating a flood of 3 inch ice cold water…..NOT as much in jeans, you know?

So this can happen to women, too, huh? Cool!

janbb's avatar

@heretodaygonetomorrow You two should get together and go swimming!

Welcome to Fluther.

augustlan's avatar

That’s awesome!

sliceswiththings's avatar

@heretodaygonetomorrow I’m so glad I’m not the only one! But you’re right, at least I can keep it subtle:)
