Anybody using Posterous? Can you advise me on its value?

Asked by perg (2624points) November 7th, 2010

I do PR for a small nonprofit, a conservation organization. My outreach includes social media such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. We also have a fairly nice website that I keep up-to-date. We don’t blog because our small staff doesn’t have the time or willingness to keep a blog current.

I’m always open to other ways to let people know about our current activities, related groups’ work, etc. They need to be easy to update and user-friendly. Recently, I’ve read a bit about Posterous but I’m uncertain whether it would complement or just duplicate what we’re doing already. I can’t get a feel for it from the informational pages available and I am reluctant to sign up for yet another account that I won’t ultimately use.

Have any of you used Posterous personally or for an organization? How do you like it? How do you use it? Are there similar services you like better? Would it even be useful for an organization like mine?

I use Posterous personally, as a blog for my parents to read while I’m in a different country for college. I don’t necessarily think it’s the best thing for an organisation. It’s main strength is being able to update straight from email, so I can update on the go from my Blackberry, and upload pictures taken on my phone camera, which doesn’t seem like it would be a big plus for an organisation. The design options and comment functionality are extremely inflexible.

They’re both great services, I personally prefer Tumblr, but that’s just me. He’s a pretty objective analysis of the two platforms (he’s a Posterous user)—http://i.jeff.ly/ecHhRT

I use both. I prefer Posterous on the count that you can use many more e-mail services on it. I prefer Tumblr because you can never get rid of the Posterous avatar and replace it with your own..
