Any free dvd-burning software?

I’m looking for a dvd burning software that allows for multiple file types to be converted/burned to a dvd recognizable to most players. I’ve tried the windows official dvd software, which is very basic, and nero and roxio trials that prohibit most the functions. Any help on the topic will be greatly appreciated.
