How do you remove oil stains from clothing?

Asked by mistermister (257points) April 16th, 2007
I am in rural Wyoming right now on an artist residency. I have very few clothes with me and last night I stained a key piece of clothing with oily food. I need a magic home remedy, the more basic the better, to solve this.

Try cornstarch. The cornstarch should absorb the oil pretty well out of the fabric, and certainly won't do anything to damage it.

If that doesn't cut it, try pre-treating the oily bit with Dawn (or another dish detergent) before washing it.
