Would fluther allow me to post a thread , it's for a charity to gain support and funds for an ill ( dying ) little 6 year old girl?

Asked by sandystrachan (4417points) January 23rd, 2011 from iPhone

I wanted to ask first to make sure it didn’t violate some rule or law , I’d like to make a thread with a link asking people ifthey had spare change to donate .
She is 6 yrs old and has a form of cancer , her parents and the child had to fly from Scotland to Germany to get treatment .
Is it ok to start a thread here and what would be the best way to get peoples attention with the title ?

Although it never hurts to spead out for as many donations as possible in as many places as you can…this is probably the wrong forum to ask for direct donations.

I’d contact the mods – but you might want to ask a question on some good fundraising starter sites or other social media outlets that could be helpful if you aren’t getting an answer fast enough. You may find a better solution even if you can’t post here.

Good luck on the good work.

I’m sorry, but we don’t allow that type of thing. But you can post a link to a fundraising website on your profile page.

Also, if you’re on Facebook, post about it there. Good luck in your efforts.

Use Facebook, Flickr, online news desks, try to make a viral video like the “million-dollar voice” and get it to the right place [not here]

Because there are so many sham requests to send cards or money or whatever to help someone (old or young) who is dying of this or that, I don’t take online requests seriously anymore. If the story is very compelling I will check it out on Snopes to try to assess if it is bogus or legit, but even then I am very reluctant to make donations, send pull tabs, send cards etc. for things I first hear about online. I prefer to make donations locally where I can verify the voracity of the request.

I don’t think that the mediators would or should allow requests for donations. Not because your cause isn’t worthy but for every little kid that needs special medical help there are likely to be two scam artists and people that need money transferred from Nigeria.

I don’t think that there are enough moderators to vet the requests and I think that the need is so great that it would soon overwhelm this system.

Like @Kayak8 I make all my donations on a local level, too. There are just sooo many ways to scam on the internet and you never know who is on the up-and-up and who isn’t. I admire your desire to help, but think you and the little girl would be better served from a local level.
