What should my avatar picture be?

Asked by jellyfish3232 (1852points) February 13th, 2011

As a newb, this is the first question that I put into the community:
I can’t decide what to make my avatar image.
Be creative, now! (But not disturbingly creative)

I found my own original jellyfish photo for mine.

It depends on how you want us to think of you. Some people use the same one forever, and some change every few days depending on their moods and whims. Why not just give it a little time and see how you feel?

Use something original, that you are familiar with. It’s an association of who you are. As you can see, I use my police car. It tells you right quick, where I am coming from. Right?

And mine, immutable, is my grandmother’s vase filled with a rose and peonies from my daughter’s garden.

I dress my picture of Cate up for various occasions. Sometimes she has a jellyfish on her head.

Something that you like, that you want to be associated with you. I use my dog in different pictures. Today’s is her Valentine picture. As you can probably tell, she is extremely happy about me sticking a bow in her hair and humiliating her on the internet.

I chose a “food photo” that I took myself. Cooking is my great passion.

What are some of your great passions, hobbies or talents?

Is there a concept or an idea that is important to you?

Do you like a favorite character from a cartoon or a movie or a TV show?

Is there an image or a design or a color that you like?

What is your favorite type of music or era in time?

Are you intellectual, easy-going, humorous, serious, often late, always early?

All of these ideas will give you some ideas from which to think of a good avatar. You will also want to choose something that will reproduce in the small size that most of us will see everyday, so don’t pick a design that has a lot of intricacies that will be lost when you see it on a small scale. Have fun!

Before fluther provided a way to enlarge the avatar photo, some jelly thought that mine was a large chicken with a red comb.

I can see that, Gail. I had some pretty strange interpretations of a lot of avatars before we could enlarge them. Luckily nobody knew what I thought they were displaying.

I like the Einstein pic. It works.

Me too.

P.S. @jellyfish3232, around here there’s always going to be some creativity that’s at least a little bit disturbing. Don’t work too hard to avoid it. It’s part of the je ne sais quoi of fluther.
