How old are your friends in relation to you?

Asked by tranquilsea (17775points) March 10th, 2011

I have found, throughout my life, that I get along better and have more in common with people who are 15 to 30 years older than I am. For many years my best friends were women who were at least 15 years older than me.

What about you? Are your friends the same age, younger or older than you? Why do you think that is?

I generally date people older than me and my friends range from anywhere younger than me to older than me.

I am 51.
Most of my friends are within a 1–4 year difference in age, both younger and older.

I also consider my 23 yr. old daughter and her boyfriend to be friends as well.

In relation to my pets there is a 50 and 38 year difference. lol

@janbb Yeah..the older you get the less age means.

Many of my closest friends are near my age, but I have friends that are more than 30 years younger.

Friendship knows no age.

My friends are a variety of ages, race, color and sex. I’m also not going to go on a tangent to list the differences.

For the most part, there’s about a 15-year span between my oldest and youngest friends. My younger friends are up to about 10 years younger, because I’m an older student and most of my classmates are in their early 20s. My oldest friends are between 35 and 40.

I’m the youngest, just about.

I’m in my early 20s, a senior in college; most of my friends are around my age. Most are a little younger—one or two years—because I spent a year at another school before transferring to my current one (where I basically had to repeat freshman year).

In high school, though, I almost all my friends were a couple years older than me. I didn’t get along with people in my grade our younger (until I was a senior and my older friends had graduated). So, I hung out with my older sister’s friends a lot. I also had a lot of online friends who were significantly older, 10–30 years.

My college friends are all within a year of my age. Friends I made as an adult are my age or older, some up to 15 years older. In my wider circle of friends, people I do not stay in good touch with, but still consider them special, some are even older. In high school I was always the youngest, I started kindergarten when I was 4, and in high school had friends in the grades above me.

Across the board. I have very young friends and quite old friends.

I’m in college right now, so pretty much everyone whom I consider a friend is around my age. I think the oldest of my friends right now is about 3 years older than me. I have a friend who is quite dear to me who is 2 years younger than me. That’s about as diverse as it gets for now, I think, and I’m sure that spectrum will increase as I get older.

I’m 23 and most of my real life friends range from 20–25. I live in the same town I went to junior high through college in, so a lot of my friends are people I went to school with. My friends I met here are another story. Thinking of the people I talk to often, some just turned 18 or 19, a good number are my age +/- a year or two, and quite a few are in their 30s.

I’m 19, my friend-age-group is about 20–28 years old, majority of them are 21 years old.

I’m 14. I have tons of friends that are little (like 7) and I have friends up to 25. When people meet me, they usually think I’m 16 or 17, so it makes sense that I would be friends with people who think I’m their age. Right now, I hardly have any friends that are exactly my age.

14, 13, some are 15, some are 9 and 10 or 11.

Probably 20–25 range, plus or minus my age. (I’m weeks away from 40) The closest of those friends are no more than 7 years older than me, and only one of them is younger than me.

I have few friends within a decade of me; most are under 30 or over 50.

My best friend, that I’ve had for the last 25 years is 11 years younger than me. My other dear, close friend is 10 years older than me, my SO is 1 year younger than me and I have a couple of close gay male friends that are both about 15 to 20 years older than me. So I guess my peeps are all over the map, age wise, never really thought about it until this question was asked.

I have good friends that are 10 years younger than me, and I have good friends that are 25 years older than me.

My good friends are in their mid 30s, mostly. One is 59. One is 27.

I think that 15 year olds (as an example) have friends much closer to their age than, say, a person who is 50. A 50 year old can relate to a 20 year old and to a 70 year old just because they’ve been 20 before and remember, and appreciate the fact that in 20 years they’ll be dealing with 70-year-old lives, up close and personal….

Being in the police business for so many years, I had friends of all ages.

I truly felt comfortable with teenagers as well as people older than myself.

When you are a cop, you have to leave your generation-gap window open all the time.

O shit. There’s a cop in here?? Quick….Do Something Different!!!!!!?!!!!

I’m very close to someone 30 years mu junior. I also have friends a few years older than me. Age just doesn’t matter in this regard.

OpryLeigh's avatar

Mostly older. I work with a lot of people that are in their late 20’s (I am in my early/mid 20’s) and early 30’s.
