How do I get rid of ants?

Asked by mistermister (257points) May 25th, 2007
I have an ant/flying ant problem and would like some suggestions. The less toxic the better.

Don't know about flying ants, but for the crawlers, put out some small, shallow bowls of honey mixed w. borax. The ants will lap up honey and thus drag the borax back to their nest (or at least, that is an urban legend around rural here). I put mine outside sliders under deck so rain doesn't dilute mixture.

Ants do not like olive oil. You can spread a thin layer of olive oil on the surfaces where the ants are travelling. It worked for me in my kitchen during my last ant invasion.

we mixed cayenne pepper and ajax (both of which we were told keep ants away) and sprinkled it around the cracks in the house.

Simple Green (from Trader Joe's) totally works.
