Does anyone here like rock or metal music?

Asked by rock4ever (1866points) April 16th, 2011

It’s so hard to find people that like this music. I just wanted to know if anyone here does? People are more into pop music which irritates me. Please please please say some of you like rock and metal!?!

I love metal, stuff like Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir and Ministry. (although that last one is more Industrial than Metal, which I also love)
I also like Viking and Pagan Metal, like Ensiferum and Eluveitie.

*Here. FTFY
I do. I listen to most sub-genres except metalcore/deathcore.
@Symbeline I’m not a big fan of Dimmu anymore, but “Enthrone Darkness Triumphant” and the first Stormblast are still my favorites. And I love Cradle’s “Midian”.

I like all sorts of music from very electronic dance to good old guitar shredding rock (bypassing pissy commercial pop) to 60’s and 70’s soul and through to latin salsa vibes. Just give give give, me more more more ahhhh little bit of The Wonder Stuff for you there

@Michael_Huntington Midian is my favourite too. :) Never heard of Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. Interesting name…Imma go check some of that out.

Mourning Palace is probably the most well known song from that album.

Love it. I like a pretty wide variety of music, but there is nothing like the warm feel of the guitar and the authentic, non-generic beat of the bass and drums. From Blues to Classic Rock to Metal, it’s all amazing. My favorite band is Pantera.

Rock and a little metal are generally right up my ally!

What kind of rock and metal are we talking here?

Metal-wise, I love Iron Maiden, Dio, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, and so on, but I’m not really a fan of the symphonic-black-sludge-death-speed-satan metal stuff.

In terms of rock, I love everything from the Misfits and AFI to the Raveonettes, the Decemberists, and Elvis Presley. That said, I don’t like Fallout! At the Disco, or Hinder, or any of that sort of thing.

Point being, “rock” and “metal” are really broad genres.

Hell, I like Lady Gaga and Lily Allen too. And I like some club music, dance, and rap. Not a single fuck was given that day, haters gonna hate, etc.

I agree with @Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard that the rock genre is very large.
I listen to Pink Floyd, The Who, and Robin Trower. Is that rock enough?

RareDenver's avatar

@filmfann The Who is rock enough for anyone and if anyone doesn’t like it they can come round here and have a word with me—although I do remember a friend dancing to My Generation at his 21st party, turning round and seeing his dad dancing too and promptly leaving the dance floor, dancing with your dad? will it ever be cool? I think it always has been—

This song my dad introduced me to, very rock and very cool

That music as well as most music is generational. I like rock but not all of it. To me real rock is ‘70’s style but to another it might be some other decade. It tends to change its sound over time.

Where’s Seek? I miss that trekkie :(
This is my favorite metal song of all time

I’ve got the same problem; it especially annoys me when the radios only play pop, hip-hop, etc! Although I’m generally open-minded when it comes to music, I do prefer metal, rock, etc. I love all subgenres too; such as symphonic/Gothic metal, e.g. Within Temptation, Sirenia, Evanescence, alternative metal, like System of a Down ♥, Seether, Papa Roach, Three Days Grace, and Christian rock, like Skillet, Flyleaf and Red.

What do you define as “rock”?

I lean towards:

• Grand Funk Railroad
• The Rolling Stones
• Aerosmith
• Humble Pie
• Living Colour

Guys like that.

I don’t listen to a ton of metal but some of my favorite albums are metal.

Some of my favorites:
Ajattara—their acoustic album turns me on
Moonspell—I never fail to growl along in the car
Amorphis—not a fan of the current singer, I prefer Pasi or Tomi
Finntroll—saw them live!
Oxbow
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum—just broke up :(
Tool

Opeth, Tomahawk, Thyrfing and Hypocrisy are pretty cool too.

Berserker's avatar

GA for Opeth!

fundevogel's avatar

@Symbeline I love that Toki Wartooth is based on Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth.

Blackberry's avatar

Oh, and Slayer. I like the singer’s voice because you can hear what he’s saying, but still has the utter rage and anger in his voice. “Madness is coming your waaaaaaayyyyyy, as long as my heart still beats I can guarantee you…..Madness is coming your waaaaaaay!!!! Madness is coming your waaaaaaayyyyy!!!”

disenchanted_poisongirl's avatar

Yes!! I love rock and metal music. (and also alternative, and punk)
