Pink Floyd has to have some of the best lyrics ever!

Jugband Blues
What exactly is a dream?
And what exactly is a joke?

Nobody Home
I’ve got wide, staring eyes
And I’ve got a strong urge to fly
But I’ve got nowhere to fly to
Nobody Home by Pink Floyd

Mykonos, by Fleet Foxes.

“Brother you don’t need to turn me away
I was waiting down at the ancient gate”

You can hear those lines here at 2:16. It gives me chills every single time.

who’s chokin’ on the splinters

Gotta love Beck.

Pretty much any song by Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan.

“Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles is one of my favorites. It’s just so happy!

Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it’s all right

I also dig “Pink Stream” by Sonic Youth:

Open up your arms to me girl
Let me feel your wild heart beat girl
Sweet lips, flowers and cream
Deep in love surrender pink steam

@troubleinharlem That’s a great song! Really melodic, I love it.

“Mars ain’t the place….to raise ya kids…
In fact it’s cold as hell…...”
Lol.

Also:

“Now pump it up
And back it up like a Tonka truck”

J Lo – On the Floor

Leonard Cohen:

From Joan of Arc
‘Then fire, make your body cold,
Im going to give you mine to hold,
Saying this she climbed inside
To be his one, to be his only bride.
And deep into his fiery heart
He took the dust of joan of arc,
And high above the wedding guests
He hung the ashes of her wedding dress.’

“I’m a barbie girl, in a barbie world
Life in plastic, it’s fantastic
You can brush my hair
Undress me everywhere”........

Fucking genius stuff right there :¬)

Bob Dylan:

Changing of the Guards

Gentlemen, he said,
I don’t need your organization, I’ve shined your shoes,
I’ve moved your mountains and marked your cards
But Eden is burning, either brace yourself for elimination
Or else your hearts must have the courage for the changing of the guards.

Peace will come
With tranquillity and splendor on the wheels of fire
But will bring us no reward when her false idols fall
And cruel death surrenders with its pale ghost retreating
Between the King and the Queen of Swords.

I like Rhythm of Love by the Plain White T’s:

My head is stuck in the clouds
She begs me to come down
Says “Boy quit foolin’ around”
I told her “I love the view from up here
Warm sun and wind in my ear
We’ll watch the world from above
As it turns to the rhythm of love”
We may only have tonight
But till the morning sun you’re mine all mine
Play the Music low and sway to the rhythm of love

My heart beats like a drum
A guitar string to the strum
A beautiful song to be sung
She’s got blue eyes deep like the sea
That roll back when she’s laughing at me
She rises up like the tide
The moment her lips meet mine
We may only have tonight
But till the morning sun you’re mine all mine
Play the Music low and sway to the rhythm of love

When the moon is low
We can dance in slow motion
And all your tears will subside
All your tears will dry

Ba-ba ba-ba ba-ba baba
Da da-da dum da-da dum
Ba-ba ba-ba ba-ba ba-ba
Da da-da dum da-da dum

And long after I’ve gone
You’ll still be humming along
And I will keep you in my mind
The way you make love so fine
We may only have tonight
But till the morning sun you’re mine all mine
Play the music low and sway to the rhythm of love

Bright Eyes – We are nowhere and it’s now
“If you hate the taste of wine
Why do you drink it ‘til you’re blind?
And if you swear that there’s no truth and who cares
How come you say it like you’re right?
Why are you scared to dream of god
When it’s salvation that you want?”

Angel from Montgomery – John Prine (The first time I heard this song, someone sang it to me and I speechless)
‘Make me an angel that flies from Montgomery
Make me a poster from an old rodeo
Just give me one thing that I can hold on to
To believe in this living is just a hard way to go’

Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy Jr (but really any of his songs… this one just made me cry the first time I heard it)
“And in my best behavior
I am really just like him
Look beneath the floor boards
For the secrets I have hid”

Rebecca Black, FRIDAY

(Yeah, Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ark)
Oo-ooh-ooh, hoo yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

[Rebecca Black – Verse 1]

7am, waking up in the morning
Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs
Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal
Seein’ everything, the time is goin’
Tickin’ on and on, everybody’s rushin’
Gotta get down to the bus stop
Gotta catch my bus, I see my friends (My friends)

Kickin’ in the front seat
Sittin’ in the back seat
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I take?

It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday
Gettin’ down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend

The Waterboys..How Long Will I love You..my first dance song :)

How long will I love you?
As long as stars are above you
And longer if I can

How long will I need you?
As long as the seasons need to
Follow their plan

How long will I be with you
As long as the seasons need to
Wash upon the sand

How long will I want you?
As long as you want me to
And longer by far

How long will I hold you?
As long as your father told you
As long as you are

How long will I give to you
As long as I live to you
However long you say

How long will I love you?
As long as the stars are above you
And longer, if I can

Fallin’ through the silver screen
Honey, I’m open to anything
I don’t know where to draw the line
Yeah, I’m makin’ bets that you gonna get

My Back Pages by Bob Dylan

Crimson flames tied through my ears
Rollin’ high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads
Using ideas as my maps
“We’ll meet on edges, soon,” said I
Proud ’neath heated brow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
“Rip down all hate,” I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull. I dreamed
Romantic facts of musketeers
Foundationed deep, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

Girls’ faces formed the forward path
From phony jealousy
To memorizing politics
Of ancient history
Flung down by corpse evangelists
Unthought of, though, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

A self-ordained professor’s tongue
Too serious to fool
Spouted out that liberty
Is just equality in school
“Equality,” I spoke the word
As if a wedding vow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

In a soldier’s stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I’d become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
My pathway led by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

However, zombie cows can’t help but to have a special place in this frozen piece of coal I dare to call my heart.

The Moody Blues, just in general. I’ve yet to find a Moody Blues’ song that didn’t have beautiful, meaningful and approachable lyrics.

Trying to raise some hard love
Getting out my pitch fork
Poking your hay

Scratching in your hen house
Sniffing at your feedbag
Slipping out your back door
Leaving my spray

Cry if you want to
I won’t tell you not to.
I won’t try to cheer you up,
I’ll just be here If you want me.
It’s no use in keeping a stiff upper lip,
You can weep, you can sleep
You can loosen your grip.
You can frown, you can drown
And go down with the ship.
You can cry if you want to.

Don’t ever apologise venting your pain,
Its something to me you don’t need to explain.
I don’t need to know why,
I don’t think it’s insane.
You can cry if you want to.
The windows are closed,
The neighbours aren’t home,
If it’s better with me than to do it alone,
I’ll draw all the curtains,
And unplug the phone
You can cry if you want to.
You can stare at the ceiling,
And tear at your hair,
Swallow your feelings,
And stagger and swear.
You can show things and throw things
And I wouldn’t care.
You can cry if you want to.

I won’t make fun of you.
I won’t tell anyone.
I won’t analyze what you do
Or you should have done.
I won’t advise you to go and have fun.
You can cry if you want to.

Well it’s empty and ugly
And terribly sad.
I can’t feel what you feel,
But I know it feels bad.
I know that it’s real
And it makes you so mad.
You can cry.
Cry if you want to,
I won’t tell you not to.
I won’t try to cheer you up.
I’ll just be here if you want me to be near you.
