What are your suggestions for summer movies?

Asked by gailcalled (54644points) June 13th, 2011

My family calls them “brains-under-the-seat,” but they must have some small redeeming value. The perfect example of this is “Bridesmaids.” I was laughing at times so hard that I had trouble staying in my seat. So was most of the rest of the audience.

Wes Anderson makes some great films that are funny, fairly-light, and of good quality.

I strongly recommend Hereafter with Matt Damon directed by Clint Eastwood.

For this year, I like the Fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie

A few that have been out for a couple of months but might still be playing or about ready to hit DVD:

The Adjustment Bureau
Limitless
Sucker Punch

As far as newer movies go, I suggest:
Red
Pirates of the Caribbean 4— on Stranger Tides
The Adjustment Bureau

And my constant personal favorites:
The Princess Bride
Monty Python
Braveheart
Memoirs of a Geisha

And don’t forget that the final Harry Potter movie will be out on July 15th.

I wasn’t clear. Sorry. (The previews, dozens of them, of Pirates 4 made it look tiresome, to me.)

I am talking about first run movies in a theater. Half the fun of “Bridesmaids” was the audience’s infectious hysterical laughter.

I can’t wait for The Trip to come to our area (it’s been released, but in limited areas). If you saw Tristram Shandy, then you know these actors (Steve Coogin and Rob Brydon) and how they play off each other. This looks brilliant.

@thorninmud: You just hit the ball out of the park (as expected). Thanks.

@gailcalled & @thorninmud The Trip was a BBC TV series not a movie. (I admit it was a bloody funny TV series).

@Lightlyseared ”‘The Trip’ began life as a six-episode BBC series, later edited into this theatrical film.” (source)

Do you like action? There are not many movies more brainless than that. The new X-Men is supposed to be good.
