How do I control my constant eating?

Asked by 15barcam (756points) June 19th, 2011

I am not overweight,(yet), but lately I have been eating a ridiculous amount of food and I promise I am finshed growing! I haven’t grown in two years. I am doing the same amount of exercise I usually do. I just feal the need to eat whenever I am not doing anything else. How do I break this horrible habbit?

If you are only eating things that are pretty healthy you won’t do much harm and you also will get tired of eating it. So, raw carrots, celery, apples, raw unsalted nuts.

I have the same issue. I’ve been trying everything.

Don’t buy unhealthy foods. When you constantly eat, grab something healthy. Stay away from the snack cabinet. You can fight this craving! We believe in you!!!

Something’s on your mind, what is it? BF troubles? Exams? Parents?

Sounds like you are eating instead of dealing with the problem.

You say you aren’t overweight – yet – so better nip this in the bud. The more you eat, the more your “stomach is stretched” – making room for more – and urging you to put in more. It’s a vicious cycle. If you’ve stopped growing – look into the matter of why you are doing it.

And welcome to fluther. Don’t worry – you’ll be fine.

Maybe if you write down everything you eat, you can see if you’ve been eating a lot, and or enough. Maybe then, you’ll think twice before going for some food just when you’re bored.

Eat several times per day and small amounts of food just like I do.
If I’d have the time I’d eat all day long with just a few restroom stops.

Sounds like your bored… Take up new hobbies…

It seems to me like you already know this too, since you mentioned it in the question (“I just feel the need to eat when I’m not doing anything else”)

I have experienced this. I’m around the same age as you and I worry about the exact same thing. What you can do is keep a food journal. write down the time you ate, what you ate, why you ate, how you felt and also log your activity. Then when you read it over you can see what your habits are like maybe you always eat at a certain time because your anxious or bored. Then you can look for new ways of breaking that pattern( have a list of things to do to keep you active and busy).

Figure out how much fat you want per day and get it all for the first meal. Fat slows digestion so you have a steady supply of energy all day and you don’t get hungry between meals.
