Best way to get rid of a cold sore?

Asked by eyemadreamer (252points) June 21st, 2011

I have a date on Friday. I have noticed a small bump that has formed on the corner of my lip. I only get this about once or twice a year. Just my luck! Is there anything I can do to prevent it from getting worse? I have put on some Blistex and salt. I can’t believe my luck!

I would not put salt on a cold sore. If Abreva is too expensive you can try a dab of Neosporin.

Go to walgreens (or your local pharmacy) they should have something in the chapstick section

Swirl very strong Lipton Black tea in your mouth.

@filmfann is correct, tannins work best. I use Tanac for mouth sores. You may want to invest in some if you get these sores regularly.

We use tea tree oil at the first sign and then they don’t come.

Blistex is what I use.

No kissing of any body part that can get either cold sores or herpes.

I have decided I’ll go to the doctor tomorrow to get a prescription for Zovirax, and I’ll get some Zovirax cream from the chemist. Apparently the pill clears it up within a day or so. I haven’t gotten a full break out, but I can just feel it coming which is making me panic. Hopefully that will do the trick.

I would try mega dosing Lysine. You can find it anywhere-works wonders.

Compeed patches are the best coldsore treatment that I have found so far.
