What to do when you work with someone who annoys you totally?

Asked by rooeytoo (26981points) June 25th, 2011

I work with a woman who knows everything about everything. No one ever gets a complete sentence out before she interrupts, finishes, embellishes or solves it.

My solution is to ignore and/or play more deaf that I actually am. But it is a trial. And I know that when I have a problem with someone it is my problem and I must just deal with it.

So how do you cope with such a situation?

This is a tough one, depending on what your workplace is like, and the type of work you do.

One thing you can do is to turn any inadvertent conversation into a business conversation. And not a complaint session, but a question on what she or you are working on, or what is next to do.

I do as you do with our bad seeds, I tune out, avoid and keep busy.

At my job, there is someone who is a touch crazy, and people are actually kind of mean to her. I am nice her, but I see what the others do, and maybe this would work in your situation. Any time they are having a conversation, this woman comes and joins in (which is fine for anybody else, but because they don’t like her they do this) they just stop talking and everyone disburses.

Impossible to say without knowing more about this person. For some people, you can just ask them to stop interrupting. But, in some work environments, interruptions are normal. In that case, you may have to learn to just live with it.

I work with someone who annoys me a lot. There isn’t much I can do about it so I try to be as civil as possible. I have to admit that, every so often I rant about this person to a friend of mine who is also irritated by her. I know we shouldn’t bitch behind peoples back but it makes dealing with her much easier!

Thank you all and ga’s to you.

What I do is pretty much all of what is said above.

This is one time when hearing loss is a blessing and as I said above, I can be very selective about when to use it as an excuse! :-)
