Super deals on international travel (US to SE Asia)?

Asked by the_sherpa (108points) August 3rd, 2011

I know there are crazy insider things where you can fly super inexpensively – do you know of one?

I’ve been in the US for 12 years, and I’m on a mission to go back (solo trekking style) to my home area (SE Asia) for my 30th birthday for the month of November.
There’s Stuff I need to go reconcile.

I’m hoping to find a really great deal on the tickets. I’m on search alert w Kayak, but I know there are other things out there.

Thanks for yer help!

I’ve been on kayak for many years and it seems like since they started airing commercials and what not on TV their deals aren’t as good. I haven’t seen any super deals anywhere. I’ve never seen great deals on sites like travelocity, priceline, orbitz, but maybe they’re out there for other places of origin. I priced airfare to SE asia a few months ago and flying in/out of Bangkok was the cheapest, probably because it’s such a hub.

I use www.skyscanner.net

I don’t know any ‘insider deals’... maybe get a job with an airline and jump ship at an opportune moment?

The best “insider” way to fly to SE Asia is via miles. If you have a decent credit score, sign up for 2 or 3 credit cards with massive signup bonuses and use them to fly home. Checkout this page for the best deals: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milesbuzz-370/
