Any women on here carried a healthy baby to term while on lamictal?

Asked by pkuttner (150points) August 16th, 2011

Just looking for stories of experience. I have done plenty of Internet research. I am interested if you or anyone you know have taken lamictal, Prozac or both and had a healthy baby

I wouldn’t take lamictal while pregnant. It almost killed me when I wasn’t and it turned me purple for 2 weeks. I’m sure that doesn’t help you much but that drug is way scary.

I looked up the drug and it says it is a Category C you can see a quick table and description of what that means on the table provided on the link. Doctors prescribe drugs that are in the C category all the time for pregnant patients. It may have been given safely to patients for years, but if they have not done a specific study to demonstrate its safety in humans they can not elevate it to an A. Did you specifically ask your doctor if he jas had other patients who have taken the drug while pregnant? If it were me I would prefer not to take the drug while pregnant if possible, it depends on how severe your symptoms regarding the rrason you take the drug.

I just saw yet another commercial for ‘bad drug’ class action lawsuits.. It implied that Prozac could cause pretty serious birth defects.

I came off all meds when I learned I was pregnant with my first. I haven’t been on medication since, because I did intensive therapy. I would look into a therapist. Also, I believe the safest ssri is Zoloft, it’s what they offered me but I refused.
