Can anyone recommend a wonderful OBYN in NYC?

Asked by tan235 (877points) September 23rd, 2011

I’ve recently changed my insurance to one, which it seems, very little Dr’s take.
HIP medicaid.
My current OBYN doesn’t accept this and I now need to find a new OBYN, I was hoping to stay with St Lukes Roosevelt in NYC.
Does anyone know a wonderful OBYN that encourages natural births in NYC?
Would love to know of any.
I’m 13 weeks.

Thanks so much

Can the OBYN dept. at Saint Luke“s help you out?

Or will your current OBYN be willing to help since you are changing, not for personal or medical reasons but bureaucratic ones?

I wish I could. I have an OBGYN but he’s not all that wonderful. And HIP does suck. You should call them and they have to provide you with a list of OBGYNs they cover and then you can see if the doctors mentioned are on any rating websites online.

I think @Simone_De_Beauvoir‘s idea is pretty good. I checked HIP’s website and you can search for doctors/providers there who are covered under the plan. You may just have to make “getting to know you” appointments until you find one you like. At 13 weeks you have time to do some “comparison shopping.”

That’s true, I almost feel as though I have little choice on this type of insurance, but I didn’t have insurance before becoming pregnant… so it’s either this or a very expensive payment every month… I did try the OBYN at the hospital they were incredibly unhelpful, in fact mid way through a question I was hung up on, intentional or not I can’t say, I didn’t ring back!
Thanks for you advice people!

What is OBYN? Does everyone mean OBGYN? I see @Simone_De_Beauvoir used OBGYN. I figured the OP made a typo, but she has used it over and over and so has @gailcalled so now I am wondering if there is something I don’t know.

Done hastily and in a charitable mood. This young woman has a lot on her plate and. I believe, is not a US citizen. I thought that it might have been Brit-speak.

Here, of course, we use Ob/gyn.

(At least her questions relate to her reality and are not peppered with bizarre and distracting analogies)
