How many people can you have in your Fluther?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) December 1st, 2011

Is there an upper limit? How many do you have? What’s an ideal number?

The limit got bumped up to 200 awhile back, and I believe that’s still the case.

I’ve got 100 in mine at the moment. I don’t use this feature as a filter, as some people seem to. It doesn’t even include all my favorite jellies, really. I just add someone occasionally as a general pat on the back. I occasionally go through and weed out ghosts, but not often.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

Isn’t it 200?

wilma's avatar

@thorninmud you weed out ghosts? Is that people who have left Fluther?
Should we do that? and how do we do that?
I think I might feel like I was forsaking them if I weeded them out. Or maybe…. they have forsaken me?

Did that make any sense?

jrpowell's avatar

I just cleaned mine out. It was around 180 and now it is 9.

gailcalled's avatar

Believing in KISS, I have 0.

jonsblond's avatar

I think it was raised to 500. I have over 300 in my Fluther at this moment

AmWiser's avatar

Not many. I’ve been stuck at 60 forever.:(

TheIntern55's avatar

Maybe we should just follow as many jellies as we can to see :)

janbb's avatar

I don’t use “my Fluther” either although I have some people in it. Can’t remember the last time I added someone.

Berserker's avatar

If I run out of room, I’m just gonna personally kidnap users, and force them to live in my closet.

TheIntern55's avatar

spare me, please…

I remember something mentioned about this before. I found the following after some digging:

jrpowell's avatar

I just use it as a fast list of people that I would need or want to send a PM to. It works well for that task.

ETpro's avatar

@thorninmud & @Simone_De_Beauvoir I;ve got 272, so it’s defintely more than 200.

@wilma I should have asked that as well. Great question. I hope someone answers. If not, you should ask it as a meta question. How do you delete the dearly departed, and those who have quit (or never started) following you?

@johnpowel Was I part of the deadwood that got cleared?

@gailcalled That begs another question. What is the advantage of having people in your Fluther, or being in those of other jellies?

@jonsblond That must be right. It’s definitely well north of 200.

@AmWiser What has you stuck?

@TheIntern55 When does following become stalking? :-)

@janbb Did you decide to play it that way based on some aspect of Following, or just not getting a round tuit?

@Symbeline I’ll volunteer. I expect yu will end up with an extremely interesting closet. :-)

@TheIntern55 You’re safe for now. I’ve already volunteered to take one coat hanger.

@jonsblond Great find. Thanks. There we go, right out of the horse’s mouth (or other bodily apeture).

@johnpowell That’s pretty much my use of it too. But doesn’t it impact what shows up in your “Just for you” list of questions?

jrpowell's avatar

I don’t use that suggestion stuff. I actually went as far to greasemonkey it away.

ETpro's avatar

@johnpowell Aha. Interesting idea.

janbb's avatar

@ETpro It doesn’t. “Just for you” is based on algorithms from what you’ve answered and your topics; questions from people in your Fluther are somewhere else. I almost exclusively look at the “Just for you” questions and see nearly all of them because I answer such a wide range of questions.

wilma's avatar

@ETpro should I delete people who don’t follow me? Is that what everyone does?

janbb's avatar

@wilma I don’‘t. I have people in my Fluther who don’t follow me and I am in other Fluthers where I don’t follow them. It really doesn’t matter much at all.

wilma's avatar

@janbb that is how I am too. I never paid much attention to the whole following thing.

ETpro's avatar

@janbb LIB. So following is mainly a convenience for PMs then?

@wilma I have no idea what everyone does. I’m here to learn that. I have never concerned myself with it. I’d only do so if I maxed out the limits, and still wanted to include new, very interesting jellies.

lillycoyote's avatar

I have 225 in mine so 200 is not the upper limit.

The generally add people to my fluther as a way of saying either “I like you” or “you are interesting.” Also, there are some people I have added to my fluther after getting into it with them here, on a thread, and adding them is kind an olive branch, a way of saying no hard feelings and if they add me back then I know we are o.k.. So I don’t really follow people in my fluther. It’s more of a gesture for me than anything else.

ETpro's avatar

@lillycoyote I like that answer. And now I think back. Did we start following each other after a big fight? Oh well, it couldn’t have been all that terrible if I no longer remember it. :-)

Berserker's avatar

@ETpro It’s already pretty interesting…all those members you guys think just ’‘left’’...:D

jonsblond's avatar

I agree it does make it convenient to pm someone if you have them in your Fluther. Having a large Fluther also makes your profile colorful and interesting (for yourself since you are the only person who can view every user in your Fluther on one page). It was interesting to look at our own profiles when many of us had orange avatars for Cak or when many of us used Astrochuck’s avatar for a day. I think I had at least 30 Astrochucks in my Fluther that day. lol

lillycoyote's avatar

@ETpro I don’t really remember the exact circumstances of us following one another but you are fairly opinionated, as am I. It’s very possible you were an “olive branch” add; I vaguely remember that that might have been the situation. :- ) And some of my favorite people here are people I “got into it with” at one point or another, and none those interactions were ever so bad that the origins of our differences and our subsequent “reconciliation” have stuck in my mind. :-)

ETpro's avatar

@Symbeline Were they really “disappeared” into secret CIA prisons. I thought our lawmakers were just launching that new affront on liberty now.

@jonsblond The colorful thing is big to me.

@lillycoyote I believe you are right. And I also see that the “olive branch” worked very well.

lillycoyote's avatar

@ETpro Yes, apparently is was. It can be very effective and I never mean it disingenuously. The “olive branch” add is always an attempt on my part to mend fences and to make a “peace offering.” Even when I disagree with people here, I try my best, even if I don’t always succeed, to not be disagreeable.

Berserker's avatar

@ETpro I first read lawmakers as ’‘lawnmowers’’ lol. Too many Unsolved Mystery episodes for me tonight, I think. :D

lillycoyote's avatar

@Symbeline LOL. Are the lawnmowers running over the loafers? I’m no one to talk, but maybe it is time to go to bed. You and me both. :-)

Berserker's avatar

Eh yeah, I’m feeling pretty Twilight Zoney at the moment. All the stuff we been saying on here…lol. I bid thee nighty nights then, take care. :)

ETpro's avatar

@Symbeline Big difference. Lawnmowers actually do something.
