What might you suspect this type of skin rash to be?

Asked by whitetigress (3129points) December 13th, 2011

This is a rash on my wife’s hand. She says it is itchy and the bumps have slowly multiplied within 5 days.

To my (extremely untrained) eye, it looks like it could be allergic. At least, I’ve had similar looking allergic reactions. Has she come in contact with anything unusual lately?

My first thought was nettles, but the timing is weird. Where are you?

whitetigress's avatar

@Mariah None, nothing new at the house. However she does work retail and probably touches a lot of the same hangers customers touch. @Adirondackwannabe We are in San Diego, California.

Could be its some plant allergy then. It’s just over 20 degrees here. Not much growing.

Maybe poison ivy or one of the other poison plants? As far as I know, the sap from these plants remains active in Winter. I would wash it real good, and use some sort of cream to stop the itching, and see if that stops it.

It looks like shingles. Has the bumps turned blistery and then scabby? Does her hand and/or arm hurt? She really needs to let a doctor take a look.

Sweaty ankles, maybe? (That is an ankle, right?)

whitetigress's avatar

@Nullo It’s actually in between the thumb and index finger on the outside of the hand, a close up shot. @bkcunningham They haven’t pussed up or anything that looks like blisters… They are very small, we suspected scabies but I haven’t gotten them, and we sleep in the same bed and hold hands. @CaptainHarley Not sure if its plant related, seems like everyday it is expanding about 1 cm outward in a circle

@whitetigress

Dang! If it continues, go see a doctor. That’s about the best I can recommend.

@CaptainHarley TY! yes she’ll be seeing her doctor this Friday.

I used to live in San Diego. I think I got the same thing due to ragweed allergy. Try hydrocortisone for a few days, if you can’t get to a doctor soon.
