Can you suggest some memorable pieces of artwork from comic books?

An image from my favorite but it might not be quite as colorful as what you’re going for

I can’t really remember the backstory or even if this was the exact same cover I had in mind, oh dear, but one of the most memorable xmen covers for me was at least similar to this. Great conveyance of emotion and overall a good piece of art in my opinion.

(In fact, back when I bought those comics I often tended to like the cover art more than the comic itself…)

A cover featuring ‘Iron Jaw’. Iron Jaw killed people by biting them. It was the beginning of my mother screening any comic book I brought into the house. I still remember it, but I have no idea if it was ‘art.’

Since you mentioned Sandman, I’ll share one of my favourites: Chris Bachalo’s Death (with umbrella) from The Time of Your Life. Not very colourful, though.

First appearance of Mary Jane Watson.

Four pages from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns come to mind:

Then from Alan Moore’s Watchmen there’s Rorschach discovering Comedian’s pin, how the Comedian loses it in the first place, or just the pin itself.

Another cover that struck me recently is this Daredevil cover by Paolo Rivera. Depicting the world as sounds – it just struck me as amazing.
