What are some good blogs to read and follow?

Asked by jca (36062points) January 29th, 2012

I see this question has been asked twice before, but the most recent was in 2010.

I want to check out some good blogs.

What blogs do you recommend? What blogs do you follow?

I have a multitude of interests.

Really the only blogs I look at are cooking blogs. Here are a few of my favorites:

Pioneer Woman Cooks

Post Punk Kitchen

Vegan Yum Yum

Savvy Vegetarian

Could you list some of your interests? I have quite a few but many may not be interesting.

Flylady (after seeing your other question, this might be a good one to check out…cleaning and permanent organizing of one’s self & home)

SouleMama (Creative family projects/crafts/traditions)

@SpatzieLover: LOL! if you read that question, it was for a friend’s home! I have someone clean my house (although perhaps if I look at Flylady I can do it myself!). The queston about cleaning was because I was visiting a friend who was expecting company, and her house was a disaster, and I wanted to give her some advice.

;) It is a super helpful site. Maybe you can slip the Flylady blog or website to your friend in casual conversation somehow. ;)

Glad I made you chuckle!

Lately, I’ve been enjoying Five Acres and a Dream, The Bloggess, and of course PostSecret.

Comedy:
The Hairpin and its sister-site The Awl
Yo, Is This Racist
Sh*t My Students Write
Literally Unbelievable – people who don’t know The Onion is satire.
Clients From Hell

History/historical comedy:
Questionable Advise – in which people in olden days gave really horrible advise.
Ugly Renaissance Babies – making you realize that Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were really abnormal for their time. And that people during the Renaissance maybe didn’t put any effort into figuring out how babies look different from other humans.
Perez Hamilton – what if Perez Hilton was commenting while America was being founded?
Really, too many history to list – here is the 2011 best history blogs, but is there anything (politics, economics, weapons, sexuality, communication, etc) or any particular period (medieval England, southern US during the antebellum period, American Civil War, WWII in France, China before it was China, etc) in particular you’re interested in?

Other than that… anything really specific you’re looking for? (I purposefully didn’t post the bigillion politically-related blogs I follow, because I wasn’t sure this was really the forum).

I like lifestyle and culture stuff, like when people talk about how they renovated a home, or what they did on vacation, or shopping. There’s this one with a rich woman, Mellissa C. Morris. It’s something about preppy-ness, and she’s married to this old rich guy, and she talks about where they went on vacation, and their dog, and stuff like that.

I am looking to kill some time, so that’s where my interest in the blogs comes in!

Houzz isn’t exactly a blog, but the site updates its ‘ideabooks’ daily, and I really enjoy it for decorating/remodeling inspiration.

Little Bit Psycho is written by a jelly (no, it is not me), and is hilarious! She doesn’t update very often, but I’ve never been disappointed when she does.

Hyperbole and a Half is epically funny.

STFU Parents is one of my favourites. I have a number of facebook friends who’s status’ I would love to submit to this site but I can’t quite bring myself to do it.
