Are you feeling this recession?

Asked by SuperMouse (30845points) May 23rd, 2008

I’ve heard talk about recessions over the years, but this time I am really feeling it. Gas prices are ridiculous, the cost of feeding my family is skyrocketing, and it seems like I am barely making it from one paycheck to the next. Am I the only one?

My brother in law has been hit really hard. He is an electrician.

It has been good for me. The more houses for sale equates to me making more. But I understand that people are losing their homes. I would rather be poor and have people not getting kicked out of their homes.

Not at all.

I rent, work in the tech industry, and ride a bike to work. Luckily, things are good for me. However, I also have a friend who is an electrician and just lost his job.

well, in our home only hubby works, but we haven’t feel it so bad, we go eat outside, we buy ourselves good stuff, for the baby, we pay rent, I dont think we are feeling it that hard..

I paid $4.07 for gas this morning but otherwise no real impacts. Glad I’m too young/irresponsible to have an investment portfolio. Seems like a good time to start one, though.

How can you go to the grocery store and not feel it? The price of eggs has almost doubled. Meat prices are up. Bread prices are up. Milk and milk products are up. These are basics.

We went out for breakfast at our favorite greasy spoon, and there was a new menu with new higher prices (but still great). Who can blame them?

Airlines now charging for bags? Gas aboe $4.00?

Did anyone see the piece about the new parking lots for newly homeless middle class people that social service agencies are setting up in California?

This is a bad one, and I am certain we have not yet reached bottom.

Nope. Still not feeling it. I am living in the city through out summer so I just take the subway and hence I don’t need to worry about gas prices. As for my job, it hasn’t been affected it either. On the other hand, my cousin who used to be a loan agent had to switch jobs as a result of this.

I have been affected in terms of higher costs for gasolene, groceries, and when I go out to eat.

Although I would never describe myself as a maths person, for some reason I have the prices of practically everything I buy memorized… and lately it seems like with each purchase the prices keep climbing.

The rising prices have impacted how frequently I’ll go out to eat, and I’ve changed my driving habits. I try to consolidate trips to the store with other errrands, and ride my bike to work everyday, weather permitting.
