Flip knives?

Asked by Cardinal (2931points) May 25th, 2008

Does anyone know (and can verify) that pocket flip knives are legal or not. A knive 3 to 5” long (closed) that will open if you flip your wrist just right.and then locks in place. I am not referring to a switch blade, which is spring loaded. Where you push a button and the blade juts out or swings out quickly. Thanks for help.

are you talkin about a butterfly knife? I’m pretty sure they’re illegal.

8light’s right, its a butterfly knife, and most places in the united states have deemed them illegal.

My bother brought one to school once.

Switch blade knives are completely illegal in the UK.

I just looked at the first hit on You Tube with butterfly knive in search box. I didn’t even know those things exsisted. Looks like a good way to cut your own finger off!!. I was thinking more of a traditional pocket knive that flipped open easily. Personally I’m a gun guy. Seen several people get serious cuts on themself messing with knives.

varies from state to state. Kershaw is the brand you are talking about.
