Can you suggest a modern novel with a moral delimma at its core?

Asked by 6rant6 (13700points) May 16th, 2012

I have written a novel which revolves around a moral dilemma. Hence I am looking for agents and publishers who might want to help me get the book published.

To find those agents, I’m seeking novels in a similar vein published recently.

Any suggestions?

I would say that The Help fits that category.

I doubt “revolving around a moral dilemma” could be something publishers specialize in.

What’s the setting, how long is it, how is it written (is it a straight up novel, a written exchange, a mockument?) what is the dilemma?

You need to find a publisher that deals in somewhat intellectual literature if the moral dilemma is central to the plot, but that aside, everything else weights in too.

@Thammuz I’m not asking for strategy tips. I’m asking for books. I have a number of reasons, not all of which I am willing to share.

Start by looking at Writer’s Market. Seriously. It has probably the best resources for finding agents and publishers who are willing to accept unsolicited manuscripts, which are very few and far between these days.

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.

@Hawaii_Jake I don’t need advice on how to find agents. Duh. They are not few and far between. They are all over this new thing they call, “The internet.”

@6rant6 : If you read my sentence the subordinate clause defines publishers. It’s that group which are few and far between not agents. I’m quite surprised at your vitriol. Peace.

Just to be clear, I don’t need “Getting Yourself Published 101.”

Thank you.

The Bonfire Of The Vanities by Tom Wolfe and Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil by John Berendt come to mind.

I rarely read novels any more but maybe you will find this helpful: 100 item list of books “shelved” on Goodreads under the category moral dilemma. There is a brief synopsis provided for each book. No all of them are new but many of them seem to be and not all of them are novels but most of them seem to be. The book that @Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard mentioned, Little Bee , is on the Goodreads list of moral dilemma books.
