What can I do to make an older Lowes brand garden tractor go faster?

Asked by laketommy12345 (42points) July 4th, 2012

So, the mower is about 10 or 12 years old, and its an older lowes brand mowerI have removed the deck, and it is basically a toy. All it has to do is drive. (And also all it currenly does). What can I do to make it go faster? (WITHOUT investing more than about 15–2 dollars). Any suggestions?
(It currently has an 11hp motor and only goes a few miles an hour. If i could get it up to about 10 mph at top speed, that would be great!)

People race lawn tractors, so I would imagine there are a lot of discussions on how to do it best and probably parts for the job.

I don’t know if $15—$20 will be enough, but a few internet searches would let you know.

Here’s one person’s build, here’s a forum on the subject with thousands of posts.

Have fun.

We used to reverse the gears on the old John Deere garden tractors when they had outlived their intended purpose.
